Wonder if they plan on proposing this arena deal to Norfolk? I remember reading that Kenny Alexander already invited them to.

A nice downtown arena would be great. Not a fan of Military Circle for 1000 reasons.

One of the reasons is, it's a damn dangerous area. People get shot and killed there alot. No thanks to going any where near Military Circle. It wasn't that long ago during the Christmas season we had rival gang factions opening up fire right in the middle of MC Mall.

It also wasn't that long ago that you couldn't walk down Granby Street...until a concerted effort was made on improving the area....something like an Arena.

Shooting happen in VB too. If the reason you are staying away from Military Circle is you are afraid of being shot, I'm afraid you don't get out much. There are plenty of other reasons to stay away, namely the construction that's happening right now, but suggesting you are putting yourself in harm's way is a bit naive.

Which is why we need something good there. If a nice arena and restaurants etc opened there and pedestrian traffic was all over and cops all around the area would no longer be dangerous. The mall would be gone and replaced with the arena hopefully. And it wasn't long ago a person wouldn't have walked down Granby St downtown after sunset, now there are lots of people seeing shows, having drinks and dinner and walking up and down the sidewalks late at night. Bad areas can improve, it just takes commitment, policing and something to draw good people to an area.

It was pretty long ago. At least a decade, probably more like 15 years ago and Granby was tailor made for a rehab. Military Circle is a mess of parcels that need to be consolidated in order to redevelop and they are owned by tons of different people. Then there is JANAF also a mess and even more owners. Then there is the traffic that is already awful. Military is a 50 year redevelopment plan. Maybe it will be ready when it's time to build a replacement for the fictional arena we are currently discussing.

The Light Rail was no worse than any other project VB has wasted money on. I loved Sessoms pretending that VB was in the running for Amazon's new HQ when one of their main criteria was robust public transport.

What are some "other projects VB has wasted money on"? I swear some people ***** about VB just because it's cool. Fact is it's one of the best places to live in the entire US. Does that mean they get everything right? No, but they sure get a lot more right than they get wrong.

More specifically the former sears (or JC Penny? I forget) is now office space. Long term plan (50 years) for that area is for it to become a dense urban core with light rail going through it.

Long term plan is also for the mall to morph into an office park. There really is no plan for the mall to go away, or at least not for the land that the mall is on to become open space to build something like a stadium.

JC Penny owned the space. Norfolk does now. Sentara has a 7 year lease, Movement Mortgage a 13-year lease.

Under what metric is this a "fact?" I mean, I don't hate VB or anything, but this is a ridiculous statement.

I was born and raised in VA Beach. Won't live there ever again.

Believe it or not, not everything is a conspiracy. Everybody loves to complain about all the deals with Bruce Thompson, for example. Well why the hell would you NOT encourage the guy who has rebuilt half the beach replacing crap hotels with beautiful revenue generating machines? Sure we could tell him to f$#% off, but then we would be left with a shithole resort and ugly new developments like the New Hyatt Place that Bruce Smith and his crew gave us.

I kinda guess you missed the part where I specifically called out housing development.
