RE: All Century Team
Will Dan Williams be Top 10? Didn't really have a full career at Toledo, but only first round draft choice out of Toledo - as far as I know.

Is it also true that he never had a holding call on him called during his entire senior season? Heard that before but not sure it was true. The refs missed an obvious hold against him when Toledo lost to Akron in the Rubber Bowl on a 60 yard field goal as time expired. On the play before the field goal, Williams was about to get a sack when an Akron OL basically tackled him before he hit the QB. Williams got up quickly and still almost got the sack (almost being the key word). the QB got a pass off for a pretty substantial gain that got them in field goal range. The next play they kicked the FG and won the game.

3rd team All-American. Finalist for Ray Guy award. Heck of an NFL career, that is still going.

30. Aaron Bivins

Walk-on who went on to become UT's all time leading tackler with 508. 2 time all-MAC, MAC defensive player of the year. Academic all-MAC. Went on to be a successful painter/illustrator.

https://www.aaronsbivins.com/

I still don't understand how he was MAC defensive POY and yet only 2nd team all-MAC. Makes no sense.

Bivins still looks like he could bend steel bars with his bare hands.

Here's the WR highlight reel.
https://twitter.com/ToledoRockets/status...5945520129

Seems to have left out a lot of pretty darn good ones. No John Ross, Steve Odom, Bernard Reedy, Carl Ford, Donta Greene... probably some others I am forgetting.

and 2 of the guys on the reel are back next year along with Heisman candidate at QB. Offense should be the best in the MAC, but somehow I think we still end up not getting the MAC championship for whatever reason. Sickening to me that BG has won 2 championships during the streak in which they have not been able to beat us.

Neat to see some footage of Don Fair. Remember him mostly from just the bowl games and hearing his name on the radio.

26. Steve Schnitkey

Kinda surprised to see him this high on the list. 2 time all-MAC. Led UT in tackles in 1970. His obit (sad to say he passed in 2009) says he had 412 career tackles, good for 7th place, but that doesn't show up in the media guide. Hmm.

This is 1 cool picture though.

RE: All Century Team
Quick story on Steve Schnitkey. A few years ago, Tom Amstutz came and talked to our football team (Archbold) the Thursday before one of our games. Steve was an Archbold grad, so he told the team a story about him. Toledo was playing William and Mary (coached by Lou Holtz) in the 1970 Tangerine Bowl and some of the players from both sides met a day or so before the game. William and Mary had an All-American center who was there. Per Tom Amstutz, Schnitkey walked up to him and said, "I'm Steve Schnitkey, and I'm gonna sand your d*** off tomorrow". He then proceeded to do so. Apparently that story had trickled down to when Stutz arrived at Toledo. He spoke with great admiration about Schnitkey and the other Archbold players on the undefeateds. Just thought I'd pass that along.

RE: All Century Team
Steve was an unbelievable athlete. He was a 4 sport athlete in high school, and placed at the state track meet in two events, the high jump at 6'5" and he long jumped over 20'. Obviously he could dunk a basketball, and after college he could hit a softball as far as anyone. Steve was only about 6' 0 and 195 and played NG, but he was way too quick for any center that he went against. He along with his cousin, Bob Rose were two of the five Archbold Assassins that played for Toledo during the 35-0 area.

So how did his deck come out? Did they stain it then or just seal it?

Schnitkey held, for a couple years, the freshman high jump record at UT. May have been just the indoor record as I think football consumed his Spring.

25. Casey McBeth

Another one I didn't expect to see quite this high. 7th all-time rushing yards. 9th in 100 yard games. 6th in receptions by a RB. Of course had the amazing 300+ yard rushing game against Akron, that set a UT record that stood for more than 20 years, and is the 11th best all-time in the MAC. In the same game set the UT and MAC single-game scoring record with 32 points. 2 time all-MAC.

Footnote, the UT record book lists his Akron game at 304 yards, while the MAC record book lists it as 302 yards. Not the first inconsistency I have found between the UT and MAC books. Strange.
