If this is the case, he is a miserable failure. He has at least watched the FB program go from division champ to a pathetic shadow of a D1 program.
Don't kid yourself, he is the maestro behind how we became division champs in the first place (bringing in TK and hiring Hazell).

Sorry I corrected it meant "rape allegations". The Title 9 training that the department has to learn. This can be very serious for him and our university.

Just to be clear, the Athletic Director did not make the call to hire Coach Hazell, his Deputy Athletic Director, Tom Kleinlein, did. The Athletic Director hired Coach Haynes. Nielsen looked for help with the decision and went to university staff members who didn't work in athletics.
Additionally, word seems to be spreading around the region that KSU will not be renewing their AD's contract.

If somebody disputed that "Joel brought TK here" I failed to read that. I attempted to clear up an inaccuracy with facts. Another fact is that Kleinlein spoke up about hiring Hazell for countless reasons he personally saw in the man during the interview process not displayed by the other candidates which was very influential in the decision making process. If you want to give that credit to Nielsen then I don't see eye to eye with you. If you want to credit the AD for making the hire of his Deputy AD who successful picked a football coach then I'd agree with that.
Another fact is that Kleinlein wasn't supposed to start at Georgia Southern until after the bowl game however an unexpected turn occurred when an apparent rift between the two resulted in Kleinlein leaving a month earlier. During that month is when Haynes was hired.

The bottom line is the AD runs his department. Regardless of who is on his staff, who approves or disapproves, everything that happens while one is in "office" is his hire. If it's good or disastrously bad, it's on him. Because that is how they are judged. Would it matter if TK were still at KSU when Haynes was hired? We would still be judging Joel on that hire because he is the AD. The president has final say and nobody is blaming her. It's always on the AD.

From what I have heard about Joel, the rumors on non-renewal sounds like great news!

dannyb73,
I'm not sure why you are attempting to start an argument. Most of my posts are fact based responses should somebody post something with a few holes in it or ask a question I can answer. I leave opinions out of my responses most of the time. I attempt to provide insight to the KSU sports community which I believe is seen as informative at times. "That's just the way it is."
ksu315,
That's a good question and all I can do is go off what I know of/about Kleinlein. *Opinion Alert* I would be surprised if he submitted his name for a potential opening for a few reasons. I would imagine his next position will be in the same role at a power conference school with an average - above average football team if the stars align for him.
Now if you'll excuse me I plan on checking out of this thread unless facts or insight can be provided, not debates about who gets whose credit. Unless people feel my posts are detrimental to the cause, I'll be back the next time I can assist.

Who is trying to start an argument? All I am saying is you can't lay the faults on him without giving him the credit too. (and vice versa) He runs the department and has the final word.

I find it hard to believe. He cannot get things going with men's hoops and had to be forced by the president to make it a priority. If Lefton was still here Joel would be pushing for KSU to play football in the Big Ten. Plus with the Title 9 allegations I just don't know how he keeps his job.

I sure hope not. While Joel has some accomplishments, from an overall perspective, I believe he has underachieved. I'd like to see someone with fresh ideas come in.
