Honestly, this was kind of an uncceptable loss. Up 7 with 0:58 and you throw the game away.

edit: Heck, up 4 with 0:32 and you have the ball. Pretty hard to lose that way.

We could easily win the tourney in our back yard. That being said, we need to snap out of this slump immediately or all the new Haase bandwagoners, including myself, will start getting nervous soon.

2-0 actually

I wanted to see us win out on the road. Maybe drop one at home. Our guard play is lacking and we are stacked at that spot when we probably only need six guards.

We may be technically stacked at guard, but in truth we only have 2 guys on the team who can dribble under pressure : Norton and Baxter. When they are not on their game, we are very subject to wilting under late game pressure, which is why we have lost 4 conference games this year.

Well all that being said Norton ain't that great under pressure so I would press UaB and play zone because only one guard can shoot. Also not a dig at you BD but I look at the whole schedule we are a 500 team like some who like to only look at conference records only I wonder what if this was cusa 1.0 or 2.0 where would we be. Its great CJH isn't finishing 7-9 in conference play but we gotta win on the road

Norton's problem is he's too short to pass out of the trap, so he tries to dribble out of the trap and sometimes goes faster than his body will physically move, so we see him slip a lot. In those situations, we need someone coming to help him, or just call time out.

I can't figure out why more teams haven't pressed and played zone against UAB. Our offense is best when we throw it to the low block and let our bigs make a move. Against a zone, we stop attempting any passes to the low block, and our guards don't attack the soft spots. That said, we actually made more field goals than Rice. We just gave up too many threes and made untimely turnovers.

Honestly, I'm glad we've dropped a few before the tournament begins (as long as we hold on to a top-four spot in conference). We're not good enough to be playing with an over-inflated ego. We need to be hungry and humble for the tournament.

+1...let's get all of the losses out of our system. I'd rather drop the finale @FIU with a locked in 3-seed and win the tournament rather than rattling off 6 in a row to win the 2 seed and run out of gas.

Did u watch the end of regulation as well? I'm not happy about the way the first it ended, but we made a hell of a run to even be in that position

I didn't get to listen to but about half the game due to Valentine's Day, but seeing this later that night in the play-by-play was depressing:

0:58 Nick Norton made Free Throw. 70-63
0:58 Nick Norton missed Free Throw. 70-63
0:58 70-63 Seth Gearhart Defensive Rebound.
0:54 70-66 Bishop Mency made Three Point Jumper. Assisted by Max Guercy.
0:50 William Lee Turnover. 70-66
0:48 70-66 Seth Gearhart Steal.
0:47 70-66 Max Guercy missed Three Point Jumper.
0:47 70-66 Andrew Drone Offensive Rebound.
0:34 70-66 Marcus Jackson Turnover.
0:32 Hakeem Baxter Turnover. 70-66
0:25 70-66 Marcus Jackson missed Three Point Jumper.
0:25 70-66 Seth Gearhart Offensive Rebound.
0:18 70-69 Marcus Jackson made Three Point Jumper. Assisted by Bishop Mency.
0:18 Rice Timeout
0:16 Nick Norton Turnover. 70-69
0:14 70-69 Jeremy Jones Steal.
0:13 70-71 Joey Burbach made Layup.
0:06 70-71 Foul on Seth Gearhart.
0:06 Tyler Madison missed Free Throw. 70-71
0:06 UAB Deadball Team Rebound. 70-71
0:06 Tyler Madison made Free Throw. 71-71
0:06 UAB Timeout
0:00 71-71 Max Guercy missed Jumper.
0:00 71-71 Andrew Drone Offensive Rebound.
0:00 End of 1st overtime

We were so completely outplayed in the last minute of OT1:

UAB: 2 points, 3 turnovers

Rice: 8 points, 2 steals, 1 turnover, 4 rebounds (3 OREB)

Teams have something like a 96% chance to win a game with just a 5 point lead and 1 minute remaining. A 7 point lead with 1 minute remaining has to be somewhere between 99-99.9% chance of winning. This was a worse meltdown in the final minutes of a game than 2008 Memphis 03-razz.

Three turnovers in thirty four seconds, by three different players. Not good.

Really? I thought 3 turnovers in 34 seconds was fantastic ball. Where's Herb when you need him?

That's an epically bad meltdown. Wow 03-weeping

Nicked slipped on a wet spot on the floor that wasn't wiped up. Clearly he should be kicked off the team.

A team with 9 underclassmen lost to a more experienced team. They are growing and learning. lets move on and beat WKU.

There is no excuse for that loss no matter how young the dang team is. Bottom line is we were up 7 points with under a minute to go.

You guys can sugar coat it all you want, but that is REALLY bad. That should never happen.

I agree with blazers9911, though. We had to make a nice comeback to even be in the game at the end. With the way we played to start the game, they should've run us out of the gym. Maybe it was karma biting us in the arse.

It was terrible to blow that lead with a minute to go. Norton and Madison both missed a ft in that stretch too, which is very rare. But, it's a sport. Sometimes **** happens. Reggie miller did that same thing to the Knicks in what, 10 seconds? Nobody is happy about the result. Nobody is happy about blowing the lead. Nobody is happy about the careless mistakes in the last minute. But it happened.

We can sit here and ***** about it until Thursday, or we can talk about where we are headed if we win Thursday. I'd rather discuss the potential top 4 seed.

In one of the last home game, one of the opposing players slipped at a crucial moment, and we scored. It started a scoring run for us. I guess this was the basketball gods' payback.

Going to settle this now. We blew a game at the end we should(could) have won. We also have a team that lost its composure partly due to its youth and lack of experience. There you go. Both sides are right. HAPPY? NOW MOVE THE F On!!!!!!! Lets win Thursday.

Lee just posted two double doubles. I'm pretty psyched about that. I still think the winner of this conference is going to have 4 loses.

RE: Rice Thread
I thought fatigue on the part of Rice would win the game for us in overtime, however, it appeared the Blazers were tired team and playing not to lose.
When Brown fouled out, we played with 2 sophomore and 3 freshmen on the floor.
I thought we need some leadership on the floor but, Brown was out and Washington minutes was given to better free throw shooter. but where is the go to guy, the guy wiling to take and hit the shot. the guy who will get the defensive stop. We have Brown and we know he will take and make big shots. We need others to step forward and make plays. The coach had the team on the floor that we will see for the nest 2-3 years, they had a chance to make the play but didn't , but I expect they will in the future.
This game was lost because we didn't make the plays needed to win, simple as that. The coach left the players on the floor who going forward will make up the nucleus of our team championships runs.
HaHa, Mehinti, Norton, Baxter, Madison, Watts, Cokley are growing and are going to be a hand full for any team going forward, yes we expect more but so do they.
This is still a very young team, we have to continue to repeat that because some here see the talent and forget the majority of critical minutes are being given to freshmen and sophomores. This team is well ahead of schedule, but our expectation changed because of the quality of play , as the team matured and caught up to the speed of the game.
I expect our team to have a better showing in our next 2 home games. I expect our coach to call timeouts when we lose our focus.
I expect our guys to grow from this experiences..
I also believe the coaches and players expect the same in the future.
Good game Blazers lets go and get the next 2.

It's pretty clear the team didn't do so hot when they had some good mojo and press going for them. How will they do now that they've had two tough losses in a row? As everyone points out, this is a very young team. Will they get down on themselves or will they have the mental fortitude to come out and kick WKU's butt?
