Texas Tech over number four Baylor last night😎
Good for them. They're sort of in the same boat we are in. Need some miracles to make the tourney.
Two ways you can take that...

He prepared them to be where they are now...

He underachieved last year based on the talent that was there.

You left out a third possibility. He's a good recruiter.

Not sure I follow. If you're talking about Tubby at TT last year, he had a slightly better record than what Beard has this year. Even with Beard's phenomenal recruiting that we heard so much about a few weeks back.

It was Beard's first year there.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe he was there as an assistant coach recruiting for TT before he left to be a head coach and then abruptly returned when Tubby came here. So Beard's "phenomenal recruiting" happened prior to being the head coach. But I could be wrong - someone on here will chime in if so.

You're wrong, lol. Beard was the one who was at UALR, left for the UNLV job, then left it before coaching a day for TTU. I think he did spend some time at TTU as an AC years ago.
Beard was there under Bobby Knight, the former Tech coach with by far the most success there in the past 20 years.

Not James Dickey, the former Tech coach with the second most success there in the past 20 years.

He was never associated with Tubby Smith, the former Tech coach who comes in third by default.

Not sure anyone hinted it was phenomenal.

It sure was thorough though. He worked best he could in the late period to give depth and plug holes/weaknesses.

Some seem to think if you can't sign a 5 star, then it's useless to add players. Coaches though understand the importance of roles and bench players.

It is what it is.

That's all well and good except that Beard was only left with...wait for it...eight scholarship players when he came to Tech.

Beard essentially plays five of the guys Tubby left behind--three as starters and two off the bench.

So, two of the starters on the team are guys Beard signed in April, and two of the bench guys he plays are summer pickups also.

But let's just keep facts out of this and ride on the idea that Tubby left Beard 13 scholarship players who all were ready to go from day one.

At the same date in the season:

Beard is 17-9 and 5-8 in league

Tubby was 16-9 and 6-7.

I'll let everyone else decide which is better, if either are.
So, the players Beard has brought in account for 33.2% of TT's points.

Tubby's additions have accounted for 9.6% of Memphis' points.

Yeah, but Beard was hired a week or two AFTER Tubby was hired and if you go backwards through a wormhole, then the law of basketball recruiting says he was actually hired before Tubby and why he was able to better address his team's needs.

Plus, it's very hard to recruit to Lubbock.

Plus, there was no one left on the board. Except for the big man transfer from Arkansas State who is their third leading scorer.

What's with the "facts" above - you've obviously got an agenda.

No one has to "decide", it's pretty simple. Tubby was a game better. We can revisit at the end of the season, too.

Come on, aren't you smarter than that? League schedule 13 games in, Tubby is +1. Or if you want to go full schedule 26 games in, they were the same.

Original question I asked still stands. Are you thinking that Beard is outperforming what Tubby did last year?

WTF?

17 is more than 16. That's overall wins. As basic as it gets.

I never said anyone was outperforming anyone.

You did.

On a side note, don't think you want to start discussing conference marks given the job you think Tubby did at TT and MN. Here's a hint. He never had a record above .500 at either place in league play.
