Quote:President Donald Trump personally approved a US commando raid in Yemen that left one elite serviceman dead and may have killed an eight-year-old American girl, the US military has told the Guardian.

At least 14 people died in Sunday’s raid by the elite Joint Special Operations Command, which was the subject of a preliminary inquiry to determine if allegations of civilian deaths were sufficiently credible to merit a full investigation.

On Wednesday night, US central command said in a statement that the team conducting the inquiry had already confirmed that civilians were “likely killed” in the raid and that “casualties may include children”. It is continuing to look into whether there “were any still-undetected civilian casualties”.

Quote:An eight-year-old girl, Nawar al-Awlaki, was killed in the raid, according to her family. Nawar, also known as Nora, is the daughter of the al-Qaida propagandist and American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed in a September 2011 US drone strike in Yemen. Awlaki’s 16-year-old son Abdulrahman was killed in a second drone strike soon afterwards.

Eight-year-old American girl 'killed in Yemen raid approved by Trump'

Remember when the right was outraged when Obama's drone strike killed the 16-year old son?
Quote:The first military operation ordered by President Trump may have resulted in as many as 30 civilian deaths and the killing of an American operative, according to several reports questioning the intelligence behind the raid in Yemen.

U.S. military officials told Reuters that the operation was approved without sufficient intelligence, ground support or adequate backup operations.

Questions rise about Trump-ordered raid in Yemen
I already covered this, other than a few of us it was a general consensus that the terrorists shouldn't be hiding behind children and women and that they are collateral in the war on terror, wasting your time.
The sooner we make it clear that we will not be deterred by human shields, the sooner the practice of using human shields will be discontinued.
A. What's an 8 year old American girl doing at a terrorists hide out.
B. Is the left OK with the bad guys using women and children as human shields?
Likely killed?

She's dead isn't she?
Well...that's what the other side says. They could either be lying, or the girl could have been killed by some other means than Trump's botched raid.

Remember when no one one the left (including you) was outraged about it? Remember when you condoned Obama's "nice little drone strike" campaign, despite overwhelming evidence that drones were highly inefficient, killed a ridiculous number of civilians compared to more traditional measures, and stoked anti-American sentiment, helping radical groups recruit members?

I have a problem with both. Of course, the difference is that there were questions about whether or not the strike that killed the boy was actually targeted at him. Then "the most transparent administration ever" refused to answer questions or identify who the actual target was. Both events are tragedies, but there's an obvious difference between a girl dying during a raid and an underage American citizen possibly being targeted for assassination without due process.

Or maybe I should just quote Robert Gibbs and say that this little girl should have had a more responsible father? That seems to be an acceptable answer to the left.

Only accept something as the truth without evidence when it comes from Democrats!

So people who use human shields will suddenly cherish human life?

They cherish their own life. And once human shields no longer work to protect that, they will lose interest in using them.

Questions rise about Trump-ordered raid in Yemen

Why didn't you quote this part of the article, which seems to be the most telling:

"The New York Times reported that Obama's national security aides had approved the plans for the risky attack and that Obama had not acted because the military wanted to launch that attack on a moonless night. The next such night would have been after his term."

Note the source.

Because I've listened to interviews with an adviser who was actually there with intimate knowledge that said otherwise.

So the advisors (plural, NYT's description, not mine) disagree with the advisor (singular) in the interview that you posted. Whom do you believe?

Regardless, the narrative that this was some kind of wild harebrained idea that Trump conjured up and foisted on DOD does not seem to fit either version of the facts. And the characterization that this was a failed mission does not fit the facts either.
