I know this may start a firestorm, but I found what appears to be a recent picture of Nippert.

I still don't like it and this picture only helps me to not like it.

Unless these "creative seating options Bohn referenced are going to take up some serious space, there is going to be an awful lot of empty space around the football field.

I guess I'll have to wait and see the final product, but this is discouraging to me.

It also looks like a lot more than 1200 seats are being removed.

No more than what they have at PBS. I'm not worried.

@fccincinnati Should be real grass as well.
Football isn't the same unless its on real grass.

@readytoreno While our home and UC Football's too, Nippert is also a multi-use public space for all of UC's students. So turf is a necessity

@fccincinnati Football has always had a hard time in North America. Its not taken seriously unless played on real grass.
Good luck to you.

@readytoreno Grass would be great, but we're pretty happy with how things have gone on turf so far...

If they want grass they can build their own stadium...simple as that.
I know it will never happen because of it's multi purpose use, but real grass in the Nip would be freaking sweet.
When they built the previous press box and expanded the Reed Shank Pavilion (which became the Herschede-Shank Pavilion) I was asked and donated to the project. Part of the project was resurfacing the lower bowl AND MAKING THE TURN AT THE OPEN END to complete the bowl. They ran out of funds. I am not sure how many additional seats that would have provided, considering the existing end zone seating, but I wish they would have gotten that done. I like the symmetry I guess. Of course they would now be ripping part of that out so you can't win. I will post the old mock up of the expansion if I can find it in the archives.

The memories. You get the idea. It always seemed to me that filling in the bowl would have been the cheapest way to expand at that time but who knows. Could have made a cool entrance.

I'm not really sure why they haven't done this. I always look in that corner and think about how disconnected that area is from the remainder of the stadium. Seems like a good way to expand and get those seats back and then some, while creating a tunnel on both corners. It can't be a sight lines issue.

Well you are probably correct that more than 1,200 seats are being removed, but some of those will be replaced with field level seats in the north end zone. Yes, those seats will be more craptastic than anything that was removed but that is how capacity reduction will be minimized.

The ones that were removed were pretty craptastic from a viewing perspective. As in, you couldn't see anything from that low.
Those seats were not the best in house to be sure but you know what? If you buy away game seats from UC they will be pretty much in that exact location. Ours were at Louisville multiple times in the past and this year at Purdue.

They could not close the bowl until they moved the power plant. That wasn't a cheap option but they eventually moved it to the corner of Jefferson and MLK. That would have been the time to fill in the bowl if they wanted to expand. They chose to build the student athletic center instead which also offers a tremendous athletic facility to students.

While this is true for the lower sideline seats, I loved my seats in the corner endzone where Mardy made his famous USF play (and freaking Bridgewater beat us with the corner throw). I could see the field very well from there and when the game was played close to that endzone you were so close to everything. I've supported UC's moves to work with FCC because I think it's good for the university, but there are some fun seats being taken away as well.

Are there really gonna be more seats in the north end zone? Went by there yesterday on the way to the game and I don't recall seeing any work going on down there.

I am in agreement with Mark. Had the seats in the corner of the endzone with Mark since 2010 and loved every minute of it.
Stated simply it sucks.

Did I miss something? The 2nd photo looks like there is a tunnel coming out from under the stands in each of the 'scoops'. I thought the underbelly of the bowl was full of utility lines, what use would these tunnels provide...?

The locker rooms used to be where the tunnel is on west side. Ask Urban. I remember going through them in 1984 my freshman year. Dank, Dark, Dump. As far as the cut-outs in the corners, you could fill them in with temporary bleachers and a removable wall. With fans sitting there you couldn't tell the difference.
Those were cut to get to some sewer lines. They will be closed back up.
