Big time pick up for the BLAZERS

RecruitNation_: 2014 SG Jarvis Calhoun (@BornReady25) has committed to #UAB.
He was at the game today.

Wait. Not only are we completing our recruiting in November, but we are already starting on 2014. We're like a real program now instead of waiting for table scraps.

@EvanDanielsFOX I really like what they are doing at UAB. Getting some talented kids to become Blazers. Calhoun commit is strong.

Great shooter!

Jarvis Calhoun is the best shooter in the state, hands down. Great add for the Blazers and Coach Haase. Could be the start to a big class
Great pickup and great shooter. Glad to get another local kid. I figured he'd be our first commit for the 2014 class since he comes to almost all the home games.
Not official til the letter of intent is faxed to UAB. A long wait til November. Jarvis has said before that he wanted to play ball with Tyler Madison and Riley Norris. We've got 2 of 3 so far. Last summer, Calhoun coached by his father(Greg Calhoun) played AAU ball for the 16u Birmingham Ice team. His teammates include Cedric Mcginnis who transferred from Minor to Wenonah last summer and Justin Coleman who is the highly talented point guard for Wenonah.

As for UAB, it is home. Located in Birmingham, Calhoun could play in front of the people he grew up under and become one of the great basketball legends from the city.

“It would be great if I ended up at UAB. I like it, it is home to me.”

However, other factors are arising for Calhoun.

“I’m trying to wait on Riley [Norris] and Tyler [Madison] to see what they do. I want to play with good players and people I have played with before. That would make me comfortable.”
Did he commit to UAB or to Coa... I kid, this is great and welcome to Blazernation! The future is looking brighter.
Love it!

Amen!

We seem to be on the verge of building a Gonzaga - Butler - VCU type program in B'ham under our new BB staff. If it turns out that way, our AD deserves a lot of the credit for building BOTH men's sports with new coaches he hired.

Would be very nice to get the number 47 overall player in the class. He seems skinny for 6'8". I'm guessing he's more of face to the basket type player?
If we can add Hall and Riley Norris, that class will be incredible. As to the skinny part, we're talking high school kids here. A couple of years working with Lou DeNeen will cure that. They have the height, muscle will come.

I'm crossing my fingers. The 2013 class already is very solid, and if the 2014 class continues to shape up this way we'll be loaded and able to play the way Haase really wants to.

I can't wait.

The big problems right now is that Hall lives in Calipari's backyard and Norris is UAT fan.

Article on Norris on 2/5/2013- http://www.premierball.com/2014-riley-norris-interview/

6. What schools have shown strong interest so far? Riley Norris: Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Mississippi St., Arkansas, Stanford, Clemson, Kansas St., Georgia, Belmont, Mercer, Wright State, Ole Miss., Murray State, Tulane, Harvard, Texas A&M, Samford, and Louisiana-Lafayette.

7. What schools have offered scholarships? Riley Norris: Alabama, Auburn, UAB, Mississippi St., Arkansas, Mercer, Wright St., Tulane, Ole Miss, Belmont, and Samford.

9. Would you prefer to play college basketball close to home, or is that not a factor for you? Riley Norris: That really isn’t a factor for me.

14. What things are really important to you when it comes to choosing where to play college basketball? Riley Norris: Style of play will be a big factor, a coach that can help develop my game, somewhere where I feel comfortable, and of course most importantly my academics. I want to get a good degree.

19. What style of play do you prefer? Riley Norris: An up-tempo style that will allow 70-80 possessions a game. I think I’m pretty versatile, so I would like to display my skills on an open floor.
Getting Norris would be huge, UT and bama want him. If he actually wants
to play in a good offense he won't go to bama.
I think Hall is a huge stretch. Tom Crean-Indiana head coach, John Pelphrey (Florida), Tracy Webster (Tennessee) and Mark Pope (BYU) were all in attendance to watch East Ridge High School's Ray Kasongo vs Johnson Central's Shane Hall.

Johnson Central 61, Pike-ville 57 (15th): Shane Hall had 17 points and eight rebounds and Johnson Central held off the Panthers in the semifinals. Ray Kasongo had 15 points and 14 rebounds for Pikeville.

This was on march 1st.
If Norris wants 70-80 possessions per game, Bammer's not a good fit. They can't even score 70 points!
