Yes, the shovel was used on our farm to kill copperheads. Always use the flat side of the shovel so as not expose yourself. Very effective
My mother ever the bird lover took a Canadian Gander who was rescued from Red River by a friend who was hunting deer. After the goose recovered and got his health back you had to carry a shovel to keep him at bay. Meanest bird I’ve ever had to deal with. I never knew getting slapped with a seven foot wing span could hurt so much. I was told 7 flaps a second. Plus gets you disoriented rather quickly.
Take a steel wire clothes hanger and wrap a hand towel around it and let someone get a swinging swat on you to get the same effect just not at the rate of speed.
He also beat the crap out of the yard dogs.
But, the best beating he gave was to neighbors police retired German Shepherd. The dog came over to suck eggs. But, when dog came around the barn and he startled the Goose. The bird immediately jumped on the dogs head and the wings and claws were flying. When the dog finally got free he hauled butt home. His home was probably 800 yards away and a barb wire fence. He never came back over. Neighbor accused me of letting my dogs tear him up. He never believed the bird did it.
I wish I knew that cuck so that I could tease him to no end. I dislike him a lot.
As for that goose. There was this goose at the old fishing hole that was a bully. He would get after anyone, anytime. One winter day I got off my truck and he saw me and tried to intimidate me and came towards me. I casually took off my field jacket and threw it at him. It was comical watching him covered with it trying to take it off. I let him struggle a bit and then I went and set him free. He ran off like an antifa when he meets someone who's about to kick his butt. He never bothered me after that.
