Hopefully it's fruitful. I'd definitely support a Portland MLB team.

Given how many teams seem to be relocation threats, Portland probably will wind up with something.

I don't see Portland happening.

It may or may not, but if it doesn't, it won't be because of a lack of effort by power brokers in Portland. As much as I'd like to see the league expand here, I think Portland's only shot of a team is attracting a team from elsewhere. If they had this together 2 years ago, they would've been in a better position to land the A's.

Portland A's sounds good and would make the Mariners rivalry that much more interesting.

I'm sure a concerted effort is being made in Portland, but since there isn't an expansion option it means catering to teams with questionable ownership situations. That is what will make the relocation deal fall apart.

I guess Portland? I’d prefer Carolina (Charlotte or Raleigh) and Nashville. Without forcing any current teams to switch leagues:

AL
East: Baltimore, Boston, New York, Toronto
North: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Minnesota
South: Houston, Nashville, Tampa Bay, Texas
West: Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle

NL
East: Cincinnati, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh
North: Chicago, Colorado, Milwaukee, St. Louis
South: Atlanta, Carolina, Miami, Washington
West: Arizona, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco

To me, Carolina & Nashville, don't really scream "MLB" to me. Portland does though, IMO. Oakland really wanted to keep the A's (they seemed to be an institution in Oakland), but I guess land acquisition issues & money made it a "no-go" for the A's. Meanwhile, Las Vegas seems like it's turning into East Los Angeles with the Raiders, Knights, and now the A's.

I think there are several "major league cities" and then a gradual decline into varying levels of "minor league cities" with major league franchises.

Aren't the As slated for Las Vegas?

I'd assume MLB would add 4, a team for each division.

MLBRaleigh and Tom Dundon (Carolina Hurricanes owner) have been putting in some legwork for attracting a franchise via either relocation or expansion. I think they'd prefer expansion.

That’d be 6 and that would be a ton. I’d expect 2. My personal choices would be Carolina and Nashville but Portland, Salt Lake City, Montreal, Vancouver, and others are possible.

I think MLB would eventually get to 36, but it might be 25 years before they get there. I would not surprised to see some cities in Mexico enter the expansion conversation, that's 130 million+ potential fans. The Mexico City metro area is about the as populous as the New York metro area.

My guess is it would look something like this:

2030: +Salt Lake, +Nashville
2040: +Portland, +Charlotte
2050: +Mexico City (AL), +Mexico City (NL)

AL West: Seattle, Las Vegas A's, Salt Lake, LA Angels, Houston, Texas
AL Central: Mexico City, Kansas City, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland, Detroit, Minnesota
AL East: Tampa Bay, Charlotte, NY Yankees, Boston, Baltimore, Toronto

NL West: Portland, LA Dodgers, San Francisco, Arizona, Colorado, San Diego
NL Central: Nashville, Cincinnati, Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Mexico City
NL East: NY Mets, Philadelphia, Washington, Atlanta, Miami, Pittsburgh

Rough for Kansas City, unless Colorado would switch them. If Houston wants back in the NL, things could get murky.

Switching Colorado with Kansas City would be better. I would think St. Louis may not want to share a division with their cross-state rivals?
