I agree, but this is a football thread.

RE: 2024 football predictions
No need re-hashing our disappointment at the way things turned out this year. I know we all agree it was a disaster, not just that we lost 9 games, but the way we lost them.
But one thing I would point out. Going into the year, I think most of us thought our schedule would be easier than the previous year, which turned out to not be true at all.
In fact, our opponents from this season are currently 5-1 in bowl games, with Army looking to make it 6-1 tonight against La. Tech.
Also, for whatever it's worth, the AAC is currently 4-1 in both games with three more games to play (Army, East Carolina and North Texas).

We’ll go with over/under of 2.5 wins for next year to set the bar low.

RE: 2024 football predictions
I almost bumped this thread at the end of the season, but didn't have the heart...
but yeah, the schedule turned out to be far more difficult than expected...
and coaching far worse than I expected
add the two together, and that's 3-9

RE: 2024 football predictions
As for the opponents who were bowl teams, we weren't really competitive with Navy, Tulane, Army and Memphis. But we had significant leads over South Florida, UConn, and Arkansas and coulda/shoulda won at least a couple of those games--and all three of those won bowl games. Which tells you what COULD have been.
The other losses to non-bowl teams were ULM and Charlotte.
Again, I didn't post that above to give us another chance to whine about where we are, but just to point out our schedule was a lot more difficult than expected--including that ULM game. We thought UConn would be a W, based on where they've been the last several years, but they ended up 9-4. Army and Navy combined to go 22-5 (pending tonight's game vs. LaTech). Memphis (11-2) and Tulane (9-5), who we did expect to be pretty good, proved to be. UConn, Memphis and Navy all got wins over P4 teams in their bowls.

Except for that little wide left with no time on the clock, you were spot on.

RE: 2024 football predictions
Trash. I'm gonna say it. My 3-9 was on point. Like I said before, you gotta give a coach 3-4 yrs but by year three if all you're still not seeing progression and more regression it's time to move on. Next season, with a bandaid staff should be make or break. Personally, even if he goes 6-6 or 7-5 I feel they need to move on. But that's just me.
1. Can we PLEASE stop getting excited because we beat a HBCU or FCS team. We are suppose to win those and they are no indicator of this staff's or HC's ability, at least so.
2. Arkansa, UConn, and USF were the only games we were competitive in, until we weren't. 7 of the 12 teams we played are in bowls. That should tell you the level of competition we have moved up to.
There is no easy schedule in the AAC. So get that out of our heads. Out of the 7 new teams, only Army and UTSA made a bowl. It's gonna be growing pains, but the AD has got to get serious about coaching hires.
But, still looking forward to next year if for nothing more than to travel to Uconn, Tulsa, and maybe Rice. I see us going 5-1 away and 2-4 at home.

RE: 2024 football predictions
I’ll go against my persona and say something positive.
We may have landed our best edge guy since Wright and Smith, with Rogers from Miles.
He’s actually got closing speed.
See if that transfers to this level.
I think we beat Bama state, Akron, and either of Tulsa and Rice. I trust our talent level to be good enough for that.

RE: 2024 football predictions
We were only down 57-6 against Tulane going into the 4th quarter.
We were only down 31-3 against Navy with 5:30 left in the 3rd.
We were only down 44-3 against Army early in the 4th.
That only adds up to 132-12.
I need more Dragon’s Milk.
Cheers!

I must've missed the part where anybody was excited about the 3 wins
