Now as to the Texans, can somebody please tell me why we start Pete over Greek? Pete was 0-2 with a pick 6. Greek looked as well as anyone playing an FBS school could look. I am greatly looking forward to next week at HCU. We may have a QB battle for starting time when Gabalis returns.

Again, our offense doesn’t work against a physically superior opponent. Our oline can’t block an FBS dline. Our passes are just throw it up there and hope our receivers come down with it. It just doesn’t work.

We also need a kicker.

I can no longer support Whitten. I don't care if we bounce back, he needs to let go of the offense or get out of town. How in the world he had Pete over Greek as his QB2 is extremely troubling. I'm serious when I say he should have his head examined 01-wingedeagle I thought for sure he was keeping Greek on ice/redshirt due to his back surgery, but he appears to be just fine. Greek looks the part, knows the offense, and has a live arm. He's literally everything Pete is not. Whitten seriously needs to explain himself, because he looks like a total buffoon.

For once I have to agree with your lunatic rant.

Unless its disciplinary, I have no explanation why Pete should be anywhere near a QB position on any college football team

I got it, he consulted with Jerry Jones. Jones told him he was a carbon copy of Quincy Carter.
I was screaming this in the Spring. I seriously thought he won a student contest to play for the day. Like kick a field goal for free rent or something.
We were not gonna be competitive with Baylor, but to not even try? This offense has failed too many times against good competition going all the way back to D2. Yeah, it puts up empty numbers by the end of the year, but it could never do what ACU did last night against a superior opponent. That’s why some of us have wanted a change for years.
Not sure what surgery Vic had, but 3 weeks doesn’t sound right. If a ligament was involved that’s more like 9-12 weeks. 6 weeks in a cast. Guess we’ll see on the 21st in Alabama.

Hats off to West Georgia. First game as they transition from D2 to D1 and they beat a historically good FCS Samford at home 38-29. Well done. 04-cheers

So was the reason Pete was replaced was because of an injury?

I'd take Greek just what I saw of him against Baylor with no practice over Pete full practiced over a month. Greek could draw plays in the dirt and have better results.

Pete, in this space and time doesn't have the skill set. Can't believe Whitten can't see it.

Does Whitten really think fans are blind? 03-phew

I say stupid stuff, or better, I say things stupidly, but not really wrong.
Whitten told the team all week that Baylor was gonna win. Go watch his coaches show. He admits that.
Yes, we all knew Baylor was gonna win, but did Patterson at ACU tell his team that? I don’t believe he did.
We ran up the middle 3 and out in the 4th quarter. Just to run the clock. So what, if Baylor scores two more times and wins 59-3. An ass kicking is just as bad at 45-3.
I predicted Tarleton at 8-4. If Gabalis comes back by the SLU game, we might go 7-5. If Greek plays many games, we are 6-6 at best. Besides quarterback, I think we are undermanned at multiple positions. We did not hit the Portal hard like some teams did, and I think that is gonna be a problem. I don’t like the Portal, and Whitten doesn’t either, but this is the way now. We utilized it a lot less than some of our conference mates. Time will tell I guess.

I know Whitten does not like the Portal, but that is the new reality and you can complain and protest it all you want, but it you ignore it instead of taking advantage of it you will be on the losing end. It is a Darwinian adapt and survive situation. You do not necessarily have to agree with it, but you have to utilize it and that is just the simple reality of the situation. I want Whitten gone yesterday, we need to get Briles back to the Ville ( Art or Kendall) if Tarleton is going to make any noise and make a deep playoff run. Whitten is the poster child for mediocrity.

This is kinda off topic and minor, but any other Tarleton fans having concerns with the band? The university is growing in all areas but the band as it is smaller this year than last. The university sold the Honeywell Ranch a few years ago with the intent of using the proceeds to grow the band program. If you were at the Baylor game the contrast between the bands was undeniable. I was texting a parent of a Tarleton band member during the Baylor game and was hoping some Tarleton folks were watching the difference, and the parent replied the answer was probably no as there doesn’t seem to be much enthusiasm for changes. The SFA band is bigger and out performs us.

I, too, have noticed that the TSU marching band seems stagnant and declining in the number of personnel. Maybe not the Color Guard / Flag Corps, but the number of actual musicians marching with instruments is definitely way down from prior years. I was at the BU-TSU game and couldn't even hear our band from my seat even though they were tootin' their horns, and we looked like a Class 3A size unit.

You're correct: enrollment is growing, programs are growing, funding is on the rise, etc., but The Sound & The Fury... it's on the decline. Yes, the University sold off Hunewell Ranch a few years ago and the $5.4 million in proceeds from the sale were used to create an endowment to benefit Tarleton Bands via scholarships, uniform and equipment purchases, etc. to the tune of about $250K per year, per the Tarleton news release.

From what I've been told by several faculty members in the Fine Arts area, the current Director of Athletic Bands has been on campus for 16 years and now has more assistant band directors, access to more funding resources (Hunewell Endowment) and a larger "talent pool" of students to recruit from than ever before in the history of Tarleton Bands. But what does he have to show for it? A smaller band?

Heck, there are high schools with total enrollment equal to just the freshman class at Tarleton, and their bands are 2, 3 or 4x the size of The Sound & The Fury! Some faculty members have said retention of band members year over year at Tarleton is the primary concern, and that the current Director of Athletic Bands constantly complains that he doesn't have "enough support." Someone in the College of Fine Arts or Music Department Administration should take note and make a change in leadership! Sixteen years—five of which are D1—is a long time to lead a program and not see significant growth to keep pace with the new era of Tarleton athletics.

RE: UAC FOOTBALL WEEK #1
This is interesting to me. I was unaware until recently, that bands, cheerleaders and other ancillary participants in college athletics now routinely expect to receive scholarships or other financial assistance. It is therefore unsurprising that some schools have smaller bands than they used to have. I was looking at youtube videos of the SMU band from the 60s and 70s, and the shrinkage has been alarming. It looks like they have gone from the old "99 guys and a gal" to maybe 60 to 80 musicians. It's sad to see it come to this, but it must be a reflection of how much more expensive colleges have become, and that often only the big dollar schools still can still afford large bands.

One other band story: My wife's late great uncle was a band member at NTAC or ASC in the late 30s, early 40s. He told me that he and several of his friend musicians from Arlington would often be hired to play as part of the TCU band for their home games. So I guess what we're looking at is not entirely new.
