-Market. I love Knight time trying to point this out no less that 3 or 4 times and tell us we are lucky. While ECU may have a medocre market, but the fact is Markets don't mean $hit if you can't deliver them. UCF clearly can't deliever even 2nd page in their's.

I work in the Orlando area media market so I have to disagree on this.

UCF gets a lot of face time on the tv news (almost daily, and UCF sports is usually top story in the sports broadcast unless UF does something spectacular) and in the papers, often front page stuff. The Orlando market also generally ignores USF.

The Orlando media gives A LOT of attention to UCF. The Knights could definitely deliver the Orlando market.

I don't buy it. 1,200 basketball fans a game 20k in football, no one appears to care, for them to be in a major city with 44k commuters.

Bottom line is market is about the last thing conferences should be worried about. Look at the SEC and Big 10, both are located about as far away from media markets as you can get.

No offense to you, but I live in Seminole County, and I call bull Chit on you. UCF only gets press when they do something spectacular. The rest of the time it is FSU this, and UF that, wow, let's devote 5 minutes to the Magic (who suck). UCF is an afterthought.

And PLEASE UCF Fans, I am not attacking you. I think we all are fighting the same recognition battle. The medial looks at most of us as second class citizens.

Not in the Greenville market at least on WITN and WNCT. We lead the newscast even if UNC or NCSU is playing in what ever sport. Same with the Reflector. We are the home town team and both have invested a lot in to ECU in the past Both have or are currently televising ECU games. They know better than to have us playing second fiddle in our market. We are too big of a customer and we have our watch dog fans who look for this kind of thing and like to complain if they ever do, like the New Bern station did a couple of years ago.

We averaged over 28K for football....and that is after a 0-17 run. Try again...

USM has won 4 CUSA football titles, not 3.

Henry Hinton owns the station and is the host of this paticular show said there has been a LOT of talk about ECU leaving CUSA. He said it's not your normal chatter. The co-host said there has been serious discussion with in the Athletic department about leaving CUSA, and that they had confirmed, and that and something was brewing. Hinton is normally the first to break news at ECU. Big booster of ECU and has a lot of sources.

Good luck. Bring on Louisiana Tech.

Sagarin Ratings:

Football LaTech 79, ECU 93
Men's Basketball LaTech 105, ECU 285

Ouch!

ECU has provided zero for USM in terms of competition on the football field. Any school that came in to replace ECU would no doubt be a bigger challenge for USM on the football field. As much as I don't like LaTech, I will admit they would play USM a far better game than those losers from Greenville.

All that has to be said about ECU football from a USM fan's perspective...

Personally, I hope ECU gets at least a football only in the BE. They would still be on a geographic island but not as expansive.

I wouldn't mind seeing WKU stepping up to D1A and C-USA. I checked the Sagarin football and basketball rankings for WKU and ECU the last 6 years (this century).

Football: ECU 94, WKU 100

Basketball: ECU 183, WKU 76

Give WKU 20 more schollys and I bet the football ranking would improve. I know the improved bball would be welcome in C-USA.

WKU fits in better geographically IMO also.

Something to consider... WKU has an unique football stadium. Fans sit on one side. It's the weirdest stadium I have ever seen.

My feeling is, if ECU (Memphis, UAB, UCF, Marshall, etc...) gets a call to the Big East, C-USA will consider either Louisiana Tech, or North Texas. C-USA may give lip service to New Mexico State, Middle Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, FIU, FAU, or Troy. They will explore Ohio University or Miami University.

The problem is there are no more "UTEPs" in C-USA's footprint.

Would C-USA stay within its geographic footprint or grab another market?

If you wanted to go pro, just go to the SEC. It's cheaper than the franchise fees in the NFL and NBA, and Memphis already has one NBA team. ;-)

Eaglefan2000 Wrote:Good luck with that...I really hope it happens. You guys fit in better there geographically, and we could either stay at 11 or pick up La Tech.

I don't really see any difference from a competition or market size aspect between ECU and La Tech, and Tech is really a better geographic fit for CUSA. So good luck!

We won't stay at 11, unless we want for the new schools to sue us for breach of contract.

Tulsa is 28-45 and 7-25 vs those with winning records
As for your Eagles
42-29 overall and 12-22 vs teams with winning records.

How is it that Tulsa and USM played about 20 more games than USF during that span?

Oh, wait, selective sampling and poor sample size for USF.

Nice intellectual integrity.

-ECU has finished in 2nd place in CUSA 3 times, and won two Liberty Bowl alliances which was the precursor to CUSA, so it's hard to say we haven't done anything in CUSA. We beat teams like Miami, West Virginia, NCSU, Syracuse, Texas Tech, South Carolina, all while we were a member of CUSA. Last year we finished in 6th place in the conference and one D1aa win away from a bowl which many CUSA teams cashed in on like Memphis, USM, and Houston. Memphis didn't go to a bowl for 35 years or something like that before the last 3 years and Memphis fans are going to tell us we haven't done anything for CUSA football??

-Basketball has not been the greatest but this year was a total farce from what we normally are this from year to year.

RPI's since joining CUSA

Also look at the support, we win 6 D1 games and are 4th in CUSA in attendance, no way we are bad for this league. This year was an outlier. A new coach and 3 transfers, one De-commit and 2 injured starters played a large part in this season's troubles.

-Market. I love Knight time trying to point this out no less that 3 or 4 times and tell us we are lucky. While ECU may have a medocre market, but the fact is Markets don't mean $hit if you can't deliver them. UCF clearly can't deliever even 2nd page in their's.

ECU is numero uno in our market, and can, and lead the newscast and front page. Heck the ECU/SMU local broadcast preempted USC/Notre Dame on the local NBC affiliate!! We have a local TV packaged and have had one with a couple of local stations for Basketball and Football for over 10 years. Last year we televised the Big East Game of the Week with West Virginia in our market, and it was one of the highest rated BE games of the year. So talk your smack about Market Knighttime, but the fact is with you 20k part time football fans and your 1,200 part time basketball fans you can't deliver $hit in your market, which BTW USF should already be able to deliver to the BE if it was ever going to be delievered, but it's not. So what is better, deliver a mediocre market with millions of people in one of the fastest growing states or playing 5th or 6th wheel in a larger market and delivering nothing?

Knight time, UCF should beat more than one 3-8 BCS team in your history, or win a bowl before you tell me how lucky ECU is to be in this conference. We were invited a long time before you guys ever were.

OK, with the Liberty Bowl Alliance stuff: That's about as valid as Tulane's Sugar Bowl and Rose Bowl games. Oh, wait, I guess that we'll use those along with our SEC titles as part of our resume to get back in the SEC...

Look, only discuss what ECU has done since it's been in CUSA. What is that? Two baseball titles? If you want a football only membership in the BE, then you're taking stuff off the table. And since when is something mentioned exclusively on local sports talk radio valid, especially during what amounts to a dead period in the schedule when there is a massive lack of topics?
