What year was it when Arkansas played Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl? I think Oklahoma was ranked #3 and a big favorite in that game. Arkansas whamped then good. It may have been the year J.C. Watts was a senior.
Watts was the qb and a good one. He was almost as good a quarterback as he is a Senator.

Wasn't Holtz the coach then? If not, I have no idea.

It was the 1978 Orange Bowl. Its game #3 on the "Great Razorback Games" thread that was running awhile back. I brought it back to the front if anyone wants to add to it.

That's my alltime favorite. OU was all cocky, Ark wasn't given much of a chance by the pundits. Then Holtz fires 2 or 3 thugs out of the starting backfield. Roland Sales, a soph, steps up huge and rushes for 200+...Hogs 31-6.
Then they beat Georgia one time in the 70s in a Cotton Bowl. Also the Ish Ordonez kick to beat Texas in early 80s. Any W over Texas is great! Also the 64(?) bowl game where they beat Nebraska. I was little but already a fan.
Love the hogs - except when they play Ole Miss.

Thanks witty for bringing that up for us to read. I couldn't remember all the details but I remember pulling for the hogs to beat the Sooners. They certainly smacked them that night. I remember half of the sooners had those red bandanas (sp.) on their heads and a shocked look on their faces.

Yeah... Arkansas has some real good football history... back in the SWC days we used to whip up on some Longhorns and Aggies... play in the big games.... the days of Dan Hampton, Steve Atwater, and co.
We're getting it back, slowly but surely, we're getting back.

You are right, ya'll a slowly climbing back. Every time I think we are making progress, we get caught in an avalanche!
One of these days! Hopefully, in my lifetime. :frown:
