NBA draft
If you wonder why realignment always seems centered around football, consider this. The 2024 NBA draft has concluded, and where are the threads on this forum about it? Are we not that interested, and if we're not, why would less avid college sports fans be?

I have to say, this draft was one of the dullest, least interesting I can remember. Fact is, I really wasn't familiar with even many of the lottery picks. Outside of the NCAAT, is anybody really that into college hoops anymore?

I watched the whole thing, both days. The draft is kind of fascinating these days because of where the players are coming from. There were 12 foreign players in this draft out of 58 selections and 3 from the NBA G-League Ignite team. There are more and more players coming from around the world. You don't have to go to college to get drafted. This was the draft by college conference:

Pac-12 – 9
ACC - 7
Big East – 7
Big 12 – 6
SEC - 4
Big Ten – 4
WCC – 2
Big Sky -1
A10 – 1
Big West - 1
MAC – 1
Foreign – 12
G-league Ignite team - 3

The MAC was the only G5 school with a draft pick. There were none from the AAC or MWC, which is kind of surprising. The MWC had six teams make the tournament and zero players drafted.

And the basically defunct Pac 12 had more players drafted than the SEC and B1G combined!

RE: NBA draft
That's because we have a separate subforum for that.

You're welcome. lol

In all seriousness, you're right. We absolutely should have a thread here since it is at least somewhat relevant to college hoops. Programs can use the NBA Draft as a recruiting tool and tell prospective recruits, "Do you remember (insert draftee's name here)? He played here at this school!" Heck, some coaches like John Calipari could use the whole "these guys played for me and they're having (or have had) great NBA careers. I can do that for you, too!" pitch regardless of which college program they're coaching. Yes, we should definitely make a thread for the NBA Draft in this subforum every year.

Indeed, happy for Enrique. I think his game will translate well to the NBA.

RE: NBA draft
The intrigue was more in the 2nd round for me. But I enjoyed the draft.

Yet there wasn't a thread on it in that forum until the mods moved this one from the realignment forum. And the entire premise of this thread had to do with what it says about college realignment, not about pro sports.

I agree. I thought it was about college players going to the NBA and the schools and conferences they came from.

Yes, I thought so, too. I made the statement in bold thinking there was already a thread over here. Instead, I accidentally got it moved to here.

Sorry, y'all. My bad.
