Even their assistant coach was on the court a lot... Welcome to the NIT, Houston...

tom-cat Wrote:Miners....wow! What coach has not complained about officiating being lop-sided! It happens! Coach Penders cares enough about his team and fans to speak out...is that whining? If you don't call it out, it will continue to occur and be overlooked! Also, what I heard from Coach Penders more than the supposed officiating complaints was praise for your team (i.e. more physical) and your fans (i.e. great support....great place to play) He clearly indicates that UTEP outplayed Houston. Why so much anger....you won for christ sake! What's more disturbing to me is the reaction of the Miner fans vs. comments by Coach Penders......

I guess we heard different interviews. Whenever he talked about us being more physical, he was implying that we should've been called for more fouls. As far as praise for our fans, he said that we had a great crowd considering we weren't in the NCAA picture. Slap in the face veiled as a compliment. UTEP has history with Mr. Penders back to his UT days. Every time we beat him, he gives us very little credit, and blames it on the officials.

Lets see...no he doesn't offend me. I think Penders is doing a great job. And...oh, yes...we did beat UTEP in Houston. Series is 1-1, don't get full of yourself...oh and one more thing, Houston still has a higher RPI. So, if we are in the NIT, then UTEP will be right there along with us. I think that sums it up.

Penders does a great job indeed...of whining. He won't win coach of the year but he's a cinch for crybaby of the year.

MinerBLT Wrote:NO COACH, you did not respond. Houston was hand checking, knocking people down, hell, Jason Williams was on his back for a lot of the game. We didn't play a great game? Nobody plays a "great" game against UTEP. The Miners always have many more free throws than their opponent. What we lack in talent we make up for in maturity. "we played the worst game of our year" said by the coach of UAB, Memphis, and Houston. And Rice. That's called Miner defense.

Too bad for the Miners Memphis' worst game is still enough

You won by 10 at home against a team that finished the game with only 8 scholarship players. Hardly an impressive victory. Assuming that next year things are back to normal and BOTH teams have 13 players I'll give you credit if you win, especially since the game will be played on OUR homecourt. However, I was not the least bit impressed by Memphis this time around. If the shoe had been on the other foot, that is UTEP being at home and Memphis being the one with only 8 players and not having their leading scorer and rebounder whereas UTEP had all their players we would have beaten you as soundly as we beat UAB instead of just winning by 10 like you did against us. This season if UTEP had all its players we'd have beaten Memphis by 2 or 3 in Memphis and by 15-20 points in El Paso. So until then keep your mouth shut because you hardly proved any dominance over UTEP.

P.S. We hardly played our best game either. In fact had we actually played as well as we can the margin would have been even tighter than 10 points. So even if I buy your argument that Memphis didn't play as well as it can it is nulified by the fact UTEP also played far short of its capabilities and of course was short of players.
