Hey a little notoriety for our name in the first round. Not bad! This is probably the closest we will get to the draft this year.
Bleacher Report on accessing Quinyon Mitchell's draft grade to the Eagles:
"Mitchell burst onto the scene in 2022 when he snagged four interceptions, including a pair of pick-sixes, against the Northern Illinois Huskies. He earned National Defensive Player of the Week honors as a result. However, the underclassman chose not to declare early even after being selected to the All-MAC first team. He went back to school for another season and continued to thrive every step of the way leading up to this year's draft class."

What a way to get a mention on Draft Day 1. And, of course, it had to be tied to Toledo. I don’t care how we do it, but I hope we crush them this year. But, with Hammock as coach, if we win it will be by one point at the last second. And, most likely, it will be by accident caused by a Toledo player slipping on a hot dog wrapper.

Most interesting comments on Mitchelll I heard came from Nick Saban. He stated, " Mitchell was our #1 prospect in the portal, but he never entered the portal." You have to have a deep scouting department ($) to have a line on so many players. They are scouting all D1 conferences and I assume other names they come across. He also mention that the MAC is not a speed conference, so you have to be careful drafting players from there, and that Mitchell made his money at the Senior Bowl, where he shut everyone down.

I get the speed part. But WMU and Toledo do really well recruiting and quite a few speedy players. Under Hammock, we definitely lack speed. Doeren and Carey got quite a few speedy WRs and LBs/DEs but we no longer recruit Florida and some of those other states that we used to.

We've opted for size instead of speed. Can't have both, otherwise they'd be in the Power 5. I miss those Tommylee Lewis and Shawun Lurry types.

I'd rather have the speed. That worked for NIU with Kill, Doeren, and Carey. The size is not working for Hammock. We aren't recruiting big10 maulers like Iowa, Wisconsin, and such.

Of course they do need size and strength on the lines. I’ll take the bulk. Speed on the edge and speed everywhere else.
My friends son did declare for the draft last spring instead of coming back for one more year. He blew up at the combine and was taken in the 4th round by Indianapolis Colts- Tanor Bortolini ....OL out of Wisconsin.... NIU was his first offer coming out of high school.....
