It's likely to change as we visit UL but still.
And that Arkansas State RPI....... mercy. RPI wise the conference as a whole has 10 teams above a 71 RPI, which to me is impressive.
I started noticing that 2 weeks ago when UL was in the midst of their cupcake stretch (if SBC baseball has one, for USM it was Arky ST, ULM, USA, UL coming up near one another on last years schedule. Include the Cajuns because they were the 15th win of that streak and the loss that ended it on Scott Berry retirement ceremony night at PTP.
Another thought, league could finish top 4 rpi, Louisiana could win the league by 3-5 games but will only have an rpi in the mid 40s low 50s. That to me is a wild thought. But props to UL for sweeping who they did when they did.
Gotta hope the Eagles are 8-6ish 12-5 (best case)vs top 50 after the dust settles in Montgomery. I’d say get to 12 top 50 Ws (if understanding the committee’s approach and thoughts behind using the logic that 14 SEC wins gets a team in the dance, 12 wins vs top 50rpi ‘should be’ a close comparison to that ‘understood’ tourney qualifying criteria.) Providing a pretty salty resume, IF we win.
Did UL peak too soon? IDk, having been at PTP for the regular season finale last season to see Danny ULynch w/2 Grand slams that day, that team had so many impressive athletes (hence winning the other side of bracket in Montgomery) Leather, Bats, arms were all in abundance, glad to see the Cajuns chipping away at this season.
