Initial ruling in FL: FSU vs ACC case will proceed
Hot off the press. Big win. What a blow. (Am I doing this right?) 03-wink

Judge's ruling in the initial Leon County FL hearing denies ACC's motion to stay. Judge Cannon finds the league's rush to the courthouse in NC textbook 'forum shopping.' Sees conflicts between ACC member schools and their conference as matters of 'state' significance for each school.

The FL case and affiliated discovery under the state's transparency laws will proceed. Judge Cooper recommended but did not order mitigation.

The next hearing is set for April 22, 9:30 am.

I don't know how you call it forum shopping when FSU's contract with the ACC say that jurisdiction for resolution of disputes is in NC. It's FSU that's forum shopping.

Didn’t expect this outcome.

The ACC should appeal.

Isn't there a judge who graduated from Miami or Florida somewhere in Tallahassee?

The judge said the thing that tipped the scale in FSU's favor was that it was the State of Florida's money...............nothing to do with the law......but everything to do with money.
03-lol He did exactly what he was told to do.

That's justice in Florida.

Justice in NC will be to withhold their money from the Conference. 04-cheers

I wonder if FSU realizes that it may be banned from post season play by the ACC? That penalty was put on MD and Clemson in 1952 for accepting a bowl bid without authorization and on Clemson in 1984 by the league. If you hold their money and prevented them from playing a bowl, that would hurt.

Right. He was very defensive of Florida (also blathered on and on that he was a lawyer for years). He definitely took the NC ruling personally. Not sure if that's the way a "judge" should behave.
