The man speaks the truth. I don’t understand why people would buy season tickets to any Rice men’s sports.

RE: Memphis v Rice baseball game 2
I thought the 2020 team was the worst Rice baseball team I’d ever see. But here we are.

I think Walt’s points about coaching are correct, as are those complaining about what is hampering recruiting (I had heard there was progress made on allowing “stacking aid” but not sure why it hasn’t happened). They are both problems.

We definitely lack talent to be an elite team. No question about that. But we have players signed by UNC, Clemson, Florida State, Texas Tech, etc. and some others that were highly thought of. Are we stacked with talent, no. But we have some.

In summary, we don’t have enough talent to be GOOD, but we have enough talent to be OK, and certainly enough not to be a miserably bad team. And the gap between miserably bad and OK in my eyes is coaching and management. We are very much lacking in that department.

We have a hitter with an .032 average starting yet again today. I don’t care how good he is in practice, how he good he defends, whatever else. He can’t get it done. Put somebody else in.

There is absolutely no player development. Literally, every single returning player from last year's squad has declined in performance this year, and most have declined precipitously. That quite a feat as it's almost impossible at the college level. Okay, there is one-- but only one, exception-- Becker.

The sad reality is his defense pales next to Gallo and, especially, Royo.

And to think that Jose once worked in player development for MLBPA. Of course, that job was apparently mostly about helping Spanish-speaking players adapt, but still there's a maor disconnect somewhere.
