David is a selfish player who wants to take all the shots. That's actually a good thing considering he's got ice water in his veins, but that attitude was what caused the riff in the locker room with JQ and especially Walton, who basically quit playing in January. Fingers crossed, but I think this is a negative as far as keeping Jones. We need Dawgs. And rebounder. And defenders. Not scorers.
at least someone in here can look at it objectively.
I disagree. The slide came after Jones was already established as our go to scorer. I think JQ was the problem. Walton based his play on whether or not he could hit threes. When he missed (which was most of the time), it affected the rest of his game.
PJ is a get to the rim guy, that will compliment Jones' game. When the defense is collapsing on PJ as he penetrates, Jones will be there to hit the open 3. Add a solid offensive big who can rebound & be a tough defender plus some complimentary guys & we could be pretty tough.
In many of our games when we had to make runs in the second half.
These occurred when Jones started taking it to the rim.
In most of our wins, we dominated in the paint.
Jones spent a lot of time with the ball in his hands.
He was 3rd in assist and led the team in turnovers because he was basically a point forward and handling the ball so much.
Jones had more FTA than the next 2 Tigers combined.
Another stat that indicates he does a lot of driving with the ball.
Almost 2/3rds of his shot attempts came from inside the arch.
Tgrrfan was right by pointing out PJ would be more likely to increases Jones' portal possibility because both are the primary ball handlers in the offense.
Doesn't mean it will happen.
Just they're both be looking to have the ball in their hands.
When it comes down to crunch time, will either or both of them be able to let someone else take the shot.
Last three years we've seen what happens when the primary ball handler is not willing to give it up for someone else.
