Nice pick up

I like that he's a true center with good size for the position. He's played sparingly during his first 2 years so if he gets regular (significant) playing time his production will hopefully improve. Needs to work on his free throws and playing without fouling so much. I'm confident that with Odell, Robinson, and Jones coaching him up that they will get the best out of him that he has to give.

Now we need one or two more big guys so they can push each other to improve in practice and provide depth at the position. Kudos to Mike for this one.

No chance last season or next season? MJ will work him very hard. He wouldn’t have got him, unless he thought he good develop him next year. I am hoping for 15 minutes. Two more year’s on the bench , won’t work. I don’t think MJ likes to waste valuable scholarships, especially if they are not raising seniors. He saw something. I have the faith.

I definitely like the size. Wasn’t so great in the Big 10, but that’s obviously a different world than the SB. And he had a few productive games. HCMJ knows what he’s getting with this guy, so I trust that he thinks he can help. Can those in the know confirm whether or not this was the committed But unannounced guy? I suspect not.

I wrote that confusingly. I was saying he has no chance at any minutes if he has stayed in Maryland.

A good start to filling up an important missing piece to the puzzle. Sounds good.

Monarx, my buddy, it was stated a bit ago by those in the know, that the mystery recruit was not a big guy. My guess is that person is another in the 6’5 to 6’7 wing type but what do I know.

Do we really need a point guard? I love the sound of the point guard we already have that just committed a couple weeks ago and we also have a returning senior point guard in Imo. I’ve seen others say we need a pg too. Can see needing one year after next for sure. I mean if we got an experienced one from somewhere fine but it doesn’t seem to be the most glaring need, to me!

Did we just get a 6’11 guy that can walk and chew gum at the same time. Is this the twighlight zone?

I did see a quote where Willard says he’s a good athlete and good shot blocker. He certainly looks athletic enough to learn a jump hook or a go to move of some sort. Nice pickup.

Relying on a Freshman PG is not good. Imo is a 7-10 min guy as a solid backup and a decent floor general. I would love to see a transfer PG with 2 years remaining to provide us some options.

As you probably know, Maryland was not a very good team, last year. Because of that, Maryland only played 8 players, with 18.5 the lowest in minutes. In looking at the new recruit, he was 7th in rebuilding, 9th in scoring. So you can see in his limited time of 6.6 minutes, he could provide more time, if Maryland was a big winner. With MJ coaching at Maryland last year, he saw something in development at ODU. Don’t forget we are in the sunbelt, not the big ten.

I believe this player, just went in the portal. If M13 puts his picture & announcement on the board, I would take it to the bank. I don’t think there is a commitment needed, he just signs with ODU.

You just triggered a thought. We seem to have a long history of giving freshmen significant playing time at the PG position. Grant Robinson, Brion Dunlap, Williamson, Caver, James, and Frank Smith. Probably a couple of more before 1980 (Twardzik? Purnell?).
That is an odd stat for any program.

I like it. Big guy looks like he moves pretty well. Looks like he could develop a bit more strength around the rim, but definitely looks like a guy who can contribute.

This guy is definitely now committed, they're referring a player that was rumored to have already committed but was not yet announced asking if this is the same recruit.

This is not the committed unannounced player. This is an awesome add though. Maryland had one of the best big men in the conference in Julian Reese. The guy had some pretty good numbers in limited minutes. I think he will have a chance to be a big piece. It's a good get.
