RE: NEC players in the transfer portal
This specific post is about Chicago State players, and not the NEC Conference in general like the thread is titled. Figured it would keep it more concise.

All I see in the portal is Ked Green, who didn’t finish the season with the team.

I don’t see any other Cougars in. And how it happens with many, possibly most teams, about the day or two after their last loss, players flood the portal with their entries.

That this didn’t happen with Chicago State is a good sign. Doesn’t mean there won’t be any transfers, but if there were guys who were 100% set on leaving, thru would likely have gone into the portal ASAP.

I think we’ll see these guys stick together. They have a couple years together and a lot to accomplish.

Corbett in the portal. Would like to have seen the team stay together for a year while adding some needed pieces. Too much to ask for in this new era of college hoops though.

I would say we are losing our MVP.

I’m not sure if he will really go or not. He may just be shopping around to see what role different coaches might have for him.

RE: NEC players in the transfer portal
He averaged 35.5 minutes per game, so it is unlikely that he would get any more minutes without moving down, and even then it is unlikely because there is not much further down to go. He is good enough that he might play a role at a school higher up the food chain, but he likely would lose a lot of minutes. Why would he not stay at home and hope to be on a dominant team in the NEC and possibly get a chance at the Dance. Nothing else makes much sense.

RE: NEC players in the transfer portal
Guessing he’s looking for some NIL $$$. Don’t know where CSU is at raising money for NIL but I’d guess the account needs a lot of building up. Surprised that more players haven’t entered the portal but so far so good. It’s hard to find player movement/recruiting info on CSU hoops online so it’s difficult to know what’s going on. Hope a group of boosters can pony up some cash so the Cougars can fill in the missing pieces.

Bad news.

2 more entered the portal. AJ Neal and Brent Davis.

Davis would be the biggest immediate impact. Neal is a player with a lot of potential who came on very strong as the season progressed.

Just par for the course these days I suppose.

RE: NEC players in the transfer portal
And now, as expected, virtually everyone who played much at all is in the portal. Within the last day or so, these names appear

Wesley Carder Jr
Nobel Crawford
Cameron Jernigan

Of course, it doesn’t mean any of them are leaving. Hopefully the Cougars get a coach hired soon and he is able to re recruit all of these guys and keep this team together for another season.
