MAC hockey coaching shakeups
Bowling Green dismissed hockey head coach Ty Eigner a few days ago, and now we are hearing that Miami is dismissing Chris Bergeron after a truly miserable five years in Oxford.

Bergeron was Bowling Green's previous head coach. He had them playing as well as they've played since the early 1990s. This does seem to raise the question: Could Bergeron be a return-to-the-future candidate for Bowling Green?

I don't see much speculation about that, perhaps there are some rumblings that Bergeron annoyed people in Bowling Green on his way out. (Bowling Green and Miami don't even play each other in hockey right now, which is kind of weird.) Still, it's interesting to think about.

Another interesting question: Is there anyone who can get hockey going again at Miami?

Miami really needs to hit a homerun with this hire. They went from one of the premier programs to a doormat and need to do everything they can to get back to relevance.

UMass showed that the right coaching hire can do wonders for a program. We went from only ever making a single NCAA tournament in our history (thanks mostly to a fairly local goalie prodigy in Quick) to always being in the conversation and winning a title.

Hope you all get some good hires on your end! Even though we're not conference mates for hockey it'll be good to see you all succeed. Hopefully we also schedule you all more often in hockey as well.

Even the selection show hosts were saying, "wow, that region is LOADED."

For us Broncos, I see an opportunity to take out 1 if not both B10 Michigan teams. 04-cheers

Not that I am predicting it. I never know which Bronco team will show up, but the opportunity to play MSU and possibly Michigan gets their juices flowing.

Pretty much a home run hire for the Falcons. Checks all the boxes.

Quote:BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Dennis Williams, a gold medal-winning head coach for Canada at the 2023 World Junior Championships and current head coach of the WHL's Everett Silvertips, has been named ice hockey coach at BGSU, Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe announced today (Wed., March 27).

Williams, the ninth head coach in Falcon ice hockey history, will be formally introduced at a press conference on Thursday at 9 a.m.

Williams comes to BGSU after spending seven years as the head coach of the Everett Silvertips of the WHL (Western Hockey League), including the last three as general manager. Under Williams, Everett earned four U.S. Division titles, three conference regular season titles and one Western Conference championship. Williams and the Silvertips commence the first round of the WHL Playoffs on Friday against Vancouver.

This seems to be the consensus view in Falcon nation.

Quote:"I have enjoyed working with Derek on this significant search that brings Dennis Williams back to Bowling Green. He has become a significant coach in the Canadian hockey system, earning gold in the World Junior Championships, and is a successful coach in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips. His reputation, achievements, and success in hockey are a perfect fit for what is being built at Bowling Green." — Jerry York, Hall of Fame head coach with five NCAA titles

Quote:"Dennis Williams brings a competitive, relentless and cerebral approach to our program. This was on display last year as he led Team Canada to World Junior's Gold under extreme pressure and scrutiny. Successfully coaching and communicating with young superstars like [Connor] Bedard, [Dylan] Guenther, [Logan] Stankoven and Brandt Clarke gives me the confidence that Dennis will be able to develop the next wave of players for our program. He has my support as he begins to revive BG hockey's reputation and national standing." — Kevin Bieksa, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Ducks, Team Canada, Hockey Night in Canada and BGSU alum

Quote:"Dennis Williams is one of the top up and coming coaches in North America. His success at every level and on the international scene speaks for itself. This is a big win for the Bowling Green community." — Derek Lalonde, Detroit Red Wings head coach
Bowling Green officially names Dennis Williams as head coach

It's a really good game going into the 3rd period 1-1 against the #1 scoring Denver team.

Oh man, overtime 1-1.

Overtime #2 coming up. Still 1-1.

It was an incredible game though. Nothing to be ashamed of in that performance.

Was hoping for UMASS. I don't much care for the NCHC blue bloods.

The Bowling Green coach s/ be good. Checks all the boxes for sure. BGSU alumni, head coach elsewhere, winning coach.
