RE: 2024 MAC Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal
Just saw AJ Clayton post on Twitter he’s returning to Athens. Never officially entered the portal, but figured it would be nice to see someone staying put given all the defections on the thread.

Just listing what VC has on their page.

Former 4* recruit 6'6" SG Kam Kraft transfers from Xavier to Miami to reunite with Coach Steele.

RE: 2024 MAC Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal
Interesting tweet I saw tonight. "Every Elite 8 team's starting lineup by where they began playing in College".

Only 21 out of 40 starts in the Elite 8 began their career at their current school. That is only 52.5%.

Side note...of the 40 starters, 2 are true freshman. If you take those 2 away, since they have not even had a chance to play at a different school, 19 out of 38 - 50% - began their career at a different school.

RE: 2024 MAC Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal
86% of the team's total point scoring gone. All five starters with eligibility remaining transfered out of the NIU program.

Can't blame him though, no one wants to be on a total rebuild for their last season.

The NCAA has got to put a lid on this eventually, or at least put in some sort of limitations on NIL $$ and the transfer portal …

If all of those players stay, is it a complete rebuild?

It's not up to the NCAA. Courts have said that players have a right to switch teams and a right to be paid. The NCAA then made a rule that schools (and their boosters) couldn't make specific monetary offers to players they were recruiting. The courts said that rule also violated the players' rights, so now direct monetary offers can be made.

The NCAA didn't want any of this.

RE: 2024 MAC Men’s Basketball Transfer Portal
The old system: good for coaches, good for fans, bad for players.
Today: bad for fans, bad for coaches, good for players.
Old and new: great for the NCAA’s coffers.
Is there a system that is equally good for all? Seems very unlikely. The pendulum has swung in the players’ favor after taking advantage of them for profit for decades.
