RE: Chicago State receives post season invitation! Set to play in the CBI Tournament
Chicago State will face the winner of the Fairfield (7 seed) and Little Rock (10 seed) game which will be played tomorrow afternoon.

Chicago will get to rest a day and their opponent won’t, as the CBI quarterfinal games will be Monday. The Cougars play at 3:30 Central.

Cougar opponents this season also in the CBI-

Bethune-Cookman lost to Arkansas State by a point.

Delaware State is playing now.

Northern Colorado will play tomorrow.

The multiple chances to possibly face a team Chicago has already played this season gives it even more of a conference championship feel. That will be good for the Cougars. Playing a team that you know and knows you is different than the mostly single games they have played the last 2 seasons. Stetson was the only home and home we had in that time frame.

Some of the statistical keys to the game from what I see-

UCSD outshot the Cougars from 2 52% to 41%. From 3, USCD was better at 50% to 40, but they each had 10 for the game.
The Tritons had 21 bench points to the Cougars 2.

But Chicago hit 15 of 19 from the line. UCSD was 9 of 18. Not often do you see a team make 2’s and 3’s the same or better than free throws. That was a game changer.
Chicago had 17 second chance points, SD had 6. The Cougars were actually out rebounded, but made good on second chances.

And it will be Chicago State versus Fairfield tomorrow. They are MAAC runner up and lost in the conference tournament final.

Monday CBI Quarterfinal Lineup

Cleveland State versus High Point 11:00 AM
Arkansas State versus Montana 1:00 PM
Chicago State versus Fairfield 3:30 PM
Evansville versus Seattle 5:30 PM

All games at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach. Definitely a nice event, having all games in one desirable, easy to reach location. Good for fans. Easy for teams. No multiple rounds of making last minute travel plans on the fly.

I notice Chicago State is have a free watch party for this game. Hope there is a good turn out. Those kinds of thing can definitely help build support and excitement as the program continues to grow.

I’m kind of bummed Little Rock didn’t win because they provided a radio feed for their first round game.
