He had a pretty good season at Bryant this year. 15 pts 9 boards.

Had a double double against FAU in their win.

He's like a less athletic Carl Cherenfant.

As I recall he was a decent defender and rebounder but wasn't much of an offensive threat. Looking at his stats this year it seems he understands his limitations as he only took 9 three pointers all year.

No sure why anyone would go after Louisville players. They have won maybe 10 games in 2 years.

UConn has a kid who started at East Carolina. He was 1st team All- American. Good kids all over the place.
UConn has Mr. Hurley. That plays a big part.

I don't recall Mr. Hurley significantly outcoaching Mr. Hardaway at any time when we played against him head to head.
I do not want to get this important thread off track. But, As far as Hurley, I was so wrong about him. When Memphis was in same conference as UCONN, I was not impressed with Hurley's teams. There was a lot of buzz and noise about how strong a coach that Hurley was. I very much disagreed. I thought it was overhype for a mediocre coach.
Obviously, That was a huge miscalculation.

Hitmen Hoops on X says 6'6" G Jonathan Lawson has been contacted by:

Memphis
St Louis (new coach - Indiana St guy)
Western KY
Tulane
Arky St
San jose St
UT Martin
Central MO
GA Southern
Radford
So Illinois
Purdue Fort Wayne
Jacksonville

His star has really lost it's luster. It's unfortunate. Doesn't mean he can't be a great role player!

Just say no. Memphis needs to move on from the Lawsons. If he wants to go somewhere and be a starter then every other school on that list would be a better option.

Another interesting portal entry today. I remember Penny tried to recruit him last year when he transferred from Auburn to UC Santa Barbara. I wonder if he will make another attempt to get him now, since we do need another big or two.

Lawson is,a local kid, in my book local kids should always be welcome at the home town University. He did nothing to burn his bridges, and I'd love to have him back.

why in god’s name would they consider a kid who left & was not good enough to see the floor at Creighton? The Lawson’s average 3 transfers per kid… leave that family of mediocre mercenaries alone.

While I agree to an extent, Creighton was a much better team than us this year. My biggest concern with transfer portal era is that everyone expects to be a starter or get 25-30 min. If Jonathan accepts his role as a 9th-10th man option getting 8-10 min a game, I’m perfectiy fine with his coming back. We know he has the ability to make 3s and he knows Penny’s system. All that said, if he doesn’t come back, no worries.

We need a couple more bigs (with one preferably being an athletic 4/rim-runner), one or two more shooters, and a backup PG.

So, we’re trying to put a team on the floor that’s just a little less talented than Creighton?
We know he can’t defend & we know his family has been a 3 ring circus of distractions & transfers. Surely, surely Penny has learned his lesson. If not, he won’t make it past next year.

Ballo from Arizona and Bradshaw from Kentucky entered today. Get Ballo please and plug and play lol. He's a double double machine where Bradshaw is more potential than production right now.

I like Ballo a lot! They seem to have a similar offense to Penny's. Easy to see what we'd be getting from film/highlights available.

I like Omoruyi better!

Side note: Big Russian Vlad Goldin went to Michigan w/Dusty May. I wonder if these UK transfers follow Cal?
