Some things never change...
I was checking on different conference tournament games last night, including UT-Arlington. Phillip Russell checked into the game at point guard and looked really good. I was truly impressed by his play, including great fast break court awareness that led to an assist and three point shot by a teammate...which was followed by a technical foul call on Russell. Classic.

He might get more than a technical foul for this one last night.

Highly talented, but highly volatile. Maturity still lacking to be a leader of a team

4. Had 2 in his first 2 games, must have gotten told to stop by the HC becuase he didn't have any for like 18 straight games after those first two. Then had 2 more once the emotions of big games started (1 in the reg season finale and 1 in the 1st Rd of their conf tournament). And then he was involved in the dustup in their final game too.

Yeah, when the Grand Canyon player dunked (which was unnecessary given their lead) and posed (wasn't modeling humility and good sportsmanship Grand Canyon publicly emphasizes) I was literally thinking "where's Russell?". Then he entered the screen with authority! If he could control his emotions he could be the real deal.

At the same time, in the prior game, I saw him detain and talk with a teammate who was upset and likely saved him from getting T'd up.

I just don't understand how someone can transfer 3 times and still play. They need to change the rules on transferring

There is a rule that barred athletes from playing right away after the first transfer. Last season after many lawsuits there was an injunction preventing NCAA from enforcing this rule. Now there has just been a rule proposed that removes limits on the number of times an athlete can transfer. We'll see if the rule is adopted at the April 17-18 meeting.

The NCAA is powerless to stop things at this point. They lose almost every lawsuit they face. I would say going forward a player can transfer as many times as they want and will not sit out at all. I predict some basketball players will transfer after fall semester and sue to be eligible for the spring semester this season-and the NCAA will lose/back down.

Edit:
Russell is graduate transfer so he's safe no matter what. The graduate transfer rule is joke. Originally you could only transfer to a school that offers a graduate program not available at your original school. They dropped that years ago. The percentage of graduate transfer that actually get graduate degrees is comically low.

New rule adopted. No one will have to sit out a year no matter how many times they have transferred.
