Thoughts, Bill? I’m not sure how I feel about the hire. He has had success but was recently fired from Ohio State. I think this will be harder for him to succeed than that job, Butler or Gardner Webb were. He has a track record of at least moderate success, but I feel they may have been able to get a bigger name for 3m/yr.

I do like how they apparently have 2m in NIL lined up though. Will definitely help rebuild

First, good luck to your Huskies today, NLess. I see UConn is favored by about 10. If St. John's plays its best game and UConn plays a "B-minus game," SJU wins. Otherwise, your team is headed to the Big East tourney title contest.

As to Holtmann, at first I was disappointed. But the more I've pondered it (and read about Holtmann), the better I am feeling. Throw out his abbreviated season at Ohio State, and CH has done a very good job overall during his career. And I like that he coached at Butler and is the perfect age (52 is neither too young nor too old).

I am cautiously optimistic.

Bill

Good point about age. He’s experienced enough to know what he’s doing as a coach, so with their NIL war chest being 2m, if he can play the NIL game well he can succeed.

Cautiously optimistic is a good approach. I really hope he turns DePaul around. It will be tough being the clear “bottom feeder” in the Big East, but as I’ve noted on here before, there is so much going for the school from a basketball standpoint. Located in Chicago, in a major conference, and the school has past history of success. Would love to see them become even a regular NIT team.

Enjoy your weekend my friend 04-cheers

If Holtmann gets DePaul competitive (or even strong) ... it will likely be at the expense of a fellow Big East program. Every league has to have a program or two that typically sit at the bottom (as a Vanderbilt fan, I know this reality too well). It's a mathematical fact.

UConn vs. Marquette for the Big East title today. Appropriate match-up given these are the league's two best teams this season. Though I wish your Huskies well, it might be best for the league if the Warriors win. Even with a loss, UConn could maintain a No. 1 seed, while Marquette could land a 2-seed with a win.

I wish both teams well.
