Very simple for Lahkin. No more pick and pop, pick and pass. Be a garbage man on offense. On defense be Vic the hacker, use all your fouls if anyone comes driving to the hoop knock them into the first row. Leave the out side play to the little guys.

TCU again is going to be tough but not impossible. I think they can get Oklahoma though.

Just get the next one vs Oklahoma State and then we can see finish line and what it will take to get there. I don’t expect it to be easy vs the Cowboys.

Isn't OSU coming off its biggest win of the season, upsetting #19 BYU? No rest for the weary.

How refreshing would it be for UC to come out on fire though and put away the Cowboys early? Another absolute must win for March hopes.

Stop. It’s a Q1 road win at a place Kansas and Oklahoma both got beat. Top 15 defense and they put up 76 on the road

Imagine watching them pull out this victory on the road and you're first reaction is, "Luck." It's hilarious how some fans have formed such negative opinions about the coach, program, or team that they have twisted themselves into nearly rooting against UC.

What a win!

I get it... I'm an ass. Let it go.

If you believe in winning through good luck, have you thought that any of our losses were because of bad luck?

For the absolutely last time... I picked the wrong word. I admit, it wasn't "luck."

We were fortunate to get out of there with the "W." I listened to the game...the whole game. I watched double-digit leads evaporate, not once, but twice. In the last six minutes of the game, we went from a double-digit lead to being tied (we held on to the lead in the first half). It wasn't "luck," OK. As someone else noted, the players played their "asses" off. And, honestly, running the clock out is a key part of the game.

But...and if you look back at the comments late in the game...I wasn't the only one who had (in the words of "Star Wars") a "bad feeling" about this. We got the win. Fine. But it wasn't an easy or comfortable win.

That's it. I'm done.

it's pretty well established that we don't do a great job of getting the ball into the post. That said, i also think that our post guys take way too much time setting up their shot when they get it. They aren't unrelated. A lot of times our post players are getting the ball way too far from the rim. They have to pound the rock to get to a spot where they can get a higher percentage shot.

if Vik ever developed a face up game where he might receive the ball with his back to the basket but turn and face, it might help. i often feel like he doesn't see/feel help defenders when they double him in the post. Maybe getting a visual on where the help is going to come from can put him in a better position to score the basket.

i think they also ran a clear out for Jamille this game. That was the first time i've seen that and would think that Vik may benefit from that as well.

Wish it was that easy but i don't think it is. i know a bunch of posters have been calling for Vik to get benched and he was. He's been playing really poorly and probably doesn't deserve the minutes.

i guess the question becomes "Do we want Vik on the squad next season or not?" if the answer is "yes" than this becomes about managing Vik's role and responsibilities to the point where we don't lose him. That probably means you can't take the "sing for your supper" approach that you're advocating for in your post. You have to try and put him in the best position to succeed. i think Coach has tried to do that with some of the plays he's run for him. And i think there are other things (face up touches or elbow touches) that Coach can install for him to get him moving towards the basket without having to blindly back down his defender. i know Vik isn't executing but you got to keep him in a space where he has the opportunity to succeed.

if the answer is "No" than it's pretty simple. You get the minutes you earn in practice, and if you aren't performing in the game, you get to watch like a fan. But, imo, we take that stance we're basically packing his bags for him because someone will give him minutes, or at the very least, promise to.

ED: The one thing i would do is bench him for hero ball threes. i know at the next level he's going to have to shoot those but that's something he can work on at the next level if he gets there. They have shooting coaches that can probably fix his trey and he'll have no restrictions on how much time he can dedicate to practicing it. Those hero ball treys can easily be mid-range twos and i have a lot more confidence with him taking 3-4 dribbles moving towards the hoop and hitting a pull up elbow jumper. When he launches a trey, it's practically the same as a turnover. At least with a mid-range, there's a chance he might be able to rebound his own miss.

I haven't played for 30 years but I remember being garbage man in the low post. Wasn't hard it was simple, don't try to be a scoring option just concentrate on boxing players out the paint and the ball will fall right in your lap.

I would be very surprised if Lakhin returns next year. Not that Miller would run him off, but I doubt he'll get any playing time guarantees so he probably would be better off pursuing a pro career somewhere.

Didn't do it.

You know when wives say things like yeah you can take the day to drive to pick up your friend and go to a game a few hours away while we are on vacation...

I sensed a trap.

Given that Vik has had many opportunities and legit reasons to leave but never did, I don't know why anyone would be surprised if he finished his career at UC.

I said he's going to play pro ball somewhere, not transfer.

Vik can still contribute to this team, he just needs to focus on crashing the boards and Defense.

i'm a fan and hope he stays, but the team is getting booed off the floor at home and he's lost his starting spot. it's a completely different experience. JDIII is nowhere near the player he is and he ended up at Arkansas. i can see him him getting a lot of looks in the offseason. Like i said, i'm a fan and hope he gets a Senior night.

Bolded, without question. Just look at what he contributed the first 2/3 of the season. I have to think it's either a physical problem they don't want to disclose in the midst of the conference season, a personal problem off the court, or simply a loss of mental focus on what he does well. Regardless, I really hope for his sake, and the team's, that he is able to work through it and return to playing an important role in returning Cincinnati to March Madness.

Besides hero three balls, i thought his role this yr was to play stretch 4 (including 3’s) and sometimes move to the 5 and do what you are asking. He’s not out there shooting 3’s (completely) on his own.

It may have been his role to shoot 3's. It wasn't working and it cost him all his minutes. My advice to Vic is simple just play the garbage man/defensive hacker role at this point of the season, get your minutes back.
