NIU women take on Western Michigan

11am start on Education day.
$5 gets you a hot dog, chips and a drink. After they run out of hot dogs 15 minutes before the game starts, the deal becomes $4.99 for the chips and a drink.

That's hilarious. @DogFan you hear that?

WBB must have thought it was Easter and not Valentine’s Day. They laid an egg and get trounced by Western Michigan 65-47 to fall to 4-7 in MAC play.

What NIU WBB needs is a few 6'8" transgenders. Women with beards!

RE: NIU women take on Western Michigan
I noticed the other night that the women did not have a Senior Night. The roster has six listed senior/grad players, plus Chelby.

Does anybody out there know if this signals some, most, all of them are coming back? Do all of them still have a Covid year to use? I know VanHyfte is a grad transfer so I can't imagine she'd have any time left.

After all the injuries and bounce backs and on and off the court Grace has had for years, I would think that she (and all the women) should have been given some half court recognition if last week was their last game at the Convo.

Anybody with any insight?

Brooke Stonebraker's first year was the covid year so she could have another year.
If your freshman year was the 20-21 season you should have a covid year.

They had Senior night on Saturday Jan 27 for the 4 seniors-Drake-Hunter-Van Hyfte-Stauffacher. Next year Koker (year 6) Marable (year 5) Stonebraker (year 5) all return plus 3 others who have significant playing time. They are poised to have something other than Carlsen’s typical.500 ish season next year which just happens to be the last year of her contract.

I hope so, because there is talent on this team, but Carlson really has trouble bringing it consistently..... She needs an assistant that can teach defense and ball control, because turnovers and lack of defense kill this team consistently.

Thanks 08!! Appreciate it very much----obviously, I missed that game. Sorry for the slow response--been away the last couple of days.

Or a new coach if she is normally hanging around .500.

Amen brother. I’d but a ticket to that movie.

I'd love a new coach too, but I don't see STF making the move depending on her contract and if she got an extension last year for making a tourney?

Her current contract (with the 2 yr extension she got last April) runs through next year. Next year is year 10 and I for one am ready for a change. I’ve said this before… I enjoy WBB…I’m old with not that many more years to attend games. I would love to see a successful run of 3-4 years of getting to the post season-meaning NCAA or NIT. With whatever success they should have next year is more than likely a one off as opposed to a sustained run. Of course as a lifelong White Sox I’m hoping for new ownership for some sustained success with them as well.

Pretty much agree with this. It seems we keep pushing the gas pedal, but, the car is still in neutral. The WBB program just seems to have stagnated at a mediocre level, with no meaningful progress.

And, yes, I also share your White Sox pain.

RE: NIU women take on Western Michigan
For a non-rev. sport I think you have to let the contract go its entire course. Can't afford to pay to fire especially when the team is respectable and probably one player away from being in the upper part of the MAC. NIU fires her and then instantly could hire another Kathi Bennett and set the program back again worse. Tough for non-rev. sports to justify change easily IMO.

It is crazy year in and out how many injuries the WBB team has that end seasons for the players. Reading about it, there were a few in NCAA that had to play walk-ons they added mid year or a school like Davidson forefitted the rest of the season as they only have 7 players available. They won 18 games this year too.
