Dukes up 61-44 after three quarters. Koslova has four fouls so Sean has to be careful about how he plays her.

Time for an Amira Williams sighting I think.....

Marshall #3 is frustrated and she is playing testy...hope the Dukes can take advantage of that.

Dukes win 72-63. JMU had a great FG% (58.2%) but a lot of turnovers (23). Marshall had fewer turnovers (15) but a terrible FG% (30.1%).

Great road win by the Dukes especially after that stinker at Ga St on Wednesday. Dukes were killing it in the paint and defended the Marshall 3 point game well. Did allow more uncontested shots around the FT line than I would like but will take those vs 3's. Dukes FT shooting was pretty abysmal again not sure why this team can be so bad on FT's sometimes.

Dukes held Marshall to about 25 point or so below their season average. Great hard work by the Dukes!!

Marshall kept trying and failing (until the last minute and a half) to hit the three. I thought we defended it very well. Lots of home cooking from the refs but it didn't help them as they shot a miserable 30% total. Furthermore, we broke their conference winning streak. It is to laugh. 56 points in the paint from the Dukes, really good this time. I can see where we really are missing Mikaya as she is turning out to be better in the middle than Annalicia (although the Marshall announcers had some really nice things to say about Annalicia) so I really hope she's better soon! Ksusha played well with 4 fouls though. Nice balanced scoring from our team. I think Coach really adjusted well from the last game.

The announcers mentioned that Lexie's baby is due around Valentine's Day. Anybody know if it's a boy or a girl? I didn't think she was quite that pregnant and hoped it would wait until the end of the season.

Well done Ladies!
Quality convincing win against a Top 100 team on the road. I too was extremely pleased with the adjustments from the first game with Marshall. And just as important to me, was the energy we showed coming off a lackluster performance against GA State. Great brainstorming by Coach and execution by the team.

A solid, determined win. Marshall is a good, scrappy team, that plays an effective style of ball that their new coach preaches. Happy the women were able to overcome lousy officiating and free-throw shooting. Speaking of which, why is it so difficult to shoot FTs? I believe it’s become a mental thing for several of our players.

RE: WBB at Marshall 2/3/24 1:00 PM ESPN+
Seems through the years that I have been watching JMU WBB (since 2006) the Dukes have never been a really good FT shooting team. Some years better than others but really mostly average or a bit below. Kinda puzzling to be honest.

In any case a great win today on the road by the women. Next up South Alabama next Wednesday

Go Dukes!!

Just got a chance to watch this. Night and day performance from the first matchup with Marshall.
1) Dukes pounded the paint and converted from close range. Far less frustrating than last time.
2) Fascinating approach of closing hard up beyond the arc in the 2-3 zone and daring Marshall to take (and consistently miss) 8-10 foot jump shots. Can’t tell if JMU exposed a weakness or it just wasn’t Marshall’s night from that distance, but the strategy paid off time and time again.
3) Dukes knew they were going to have to handle the press, and handle it they did. Again, night and day from last time out against the Herd.
4) 9 point win (double digit for most of the second half) losing the turnover battle 21-14, and taking 18 less shots. Clean some of that up and Marshall should be scared come tourney time.
5) Check out the replay at 1:23:15 to watch CC Mays be a real piece of trash. Dead ball, casually walks over and checks her shoulder into Kozlova (who’s like “…the fuk?”) and then immediately does the same to McDaniel.

Also, Troy, ODU, and ULM all lost today. Big help with just 6 conference games remaining. JMU has a pretty soft stretch ahead; if they take care of business, could put some pressure on Marshall and Troy for a top 2 seed.

Marshall is a good team but overcompensates for how short they are overall by depending on their 3-pointer. When that goes south they are really in trouble. Also I agree that CC Mays is a piece of trash. Sorry about Aislynn Hayes getting hurt but them's the breaks.
