the free throw numbers

Purdue 29-46
Northwestern 6-8

purdue shot 38 more free throws

NBA radio discussed the disparity this morning. I listen every morning on my way to work and they rarely ever discuss college basketball but they actually spent a small amount of time discussing the disgusting disparity and laughing at the fact that in an evenly called game this is practically impossible.

Purdue actually shot 33 for 57

But Edey and Lance Jones shot 28 of those because they were aggressive around the basket.

I disagree with that part...

Please share. Which bb boosters or Admin decision makers want Penny gone?

It’s not so much wanting him gone, but they’ve already realized it’s just a matter of time.

Penny has 1 NCAA tournament win in 5 years & it certainly looks like that single win will extend into year 6.

At Memphis, that’s just not good enough.

Ike believes we’d be crazy to get rid of Penny, Ike fears Penny will say I don’t need this, I’m gone
Ike’s heard Penny will be bringing in two TREY Ballers next season.
All we need is a Dude who can Bust the TREY

Agree with your statement

From 1973 to 1996 (24 Seasons), we made 13 NCAA tournaments and advanced to the Sweet 16 on 7 occasions. We averaged a Sweet 16 appearance once every 3-4 years. (Just noting this was the standard to advance to Sweet 16 often prior to Cal coaching)

Expectations:
In our current conference situation, we should be making the NCAA tournament 75%-80% of the time 3 out of every 4 years.
We should be advancing to the Sweet 16 an average of at least once in every four years.

The Sweet 16 drought we are on is not acceptable as a Tiger fan.

Well, it's 4 post-seasons - not 5.

Finch had 1 NCAA win after 5 seasons. (of course who knows what wouldve happened in 87 if we were eligible)

Pennys first year was year 6 for Finch

Cal went to two NCAA tourneys in his first five years. First round and second round.

Won a NIT.

Year 6 caught fire and had it on auto pilot.

Penny's record is very similar to Larry's so far.

And if his named hadn't been Larry Finch he would have been fired after 18 and 17 win seasons in his 4th and 5th year.

And definitely after his 13 win 8th season.

Penny and Lorenzen allowed him to keep his job instead of being let go early.

Yea Cal caught fire, thanks to World Wide Wes.

Ended up almost shutting down a 100 year old black prep school started by Booker T Washington.

And landing us on probation.

He was dirty but we overlooked it because he was winning here.

Up until about 3 weeks ago, Penny's record was almost identical to Cal's. Much different from Larry's.

Larry inherited a program that was still up, but on probation. Cal and Penny inherited a down program. I think the better comp to Finch is Pastner. Both were assistants getting their HC job due to AD laziness and outside pressures. Both programs were up, but on probation. They kept the programs up for a while, only to ultimately drag them down.

Penny is the only answer right now. He isn’t going anywhere unless we run him off.

Established big names wouldn’t take the job. Not in this conference.

We get lucky and hire a young star who gets it rolling they will jump to a bigger league first chance they get.

We have to ride the horse we have for the time being. Until we get out of this league, Penny is by far the best option and it isn’t even close.

Not defending anything or anyone, that’s just the facts of life at this juncture

That might be true for football but not for basketball...

In saying that, I am not an advocate at all for trying to get rid of Penny at this point.

Which part do you disagree with? When has the program shown the ability to hire a big name established coach?

It may be wrong but I've come to see Penny as more of just a figurehead, not a coach. I don't think he is the only option. We are not a blue blood program no matter what we think. We are a high mid major that experienced a run of tremendous success..followed by terrible results..followed by disappointing underperformance. There are definitely coaches out there with great young minds that would run just as successful a program.

Yes there are possibilities. With no connection to the town or university. They take us on a run and they are staying here? Absolutely not.

Cal dangled it over our head every year interviewing for power 5 jobs.
