I mean, we don't need Martin to tell us this. He has been wrong about the Memphis fb and bb programs more than he's been right the past couple of years.
But the team has quit. JQ has issues. Not sure if it's past mental health stuff showing back up, or what. Perfect example closing out the 1H. We get the ball with 20 seconds left in the half - shot clock off. JQ dribbles for a bit and then jacks up a missed 3. With 10 seconds left on the clock! Obviously Rice gets the rebound goes down for the REAL final shot, and then gets fouled. Hit the FT's and tack on another 2 points on us. One of the single most stoopid plays I've ever seen in college bb.
This is nowhere close to the same team it was when we were 15-2. Penny hasn't forgotten how to coach. But he seems to have quit too. Thing is, he doesn't get that luxury. We're here now, coach. So make a run at getting us out of it.

Ashton and Jayden are a symptom. They would never play if their daddy wasn't coach. All of our issues stem from Penny's lack of leadership and they are a part of it.

Has everything to do with Jones and Quinnerly thinking this is an nba tryout and believing they are bigger than the team.
But that’s the program Penny has sold them.
Quinnerly is crafty with ball but is too slow and cant for the life of him keep a guy in front of him... He'd be eaten alive in NBA. JMHO
That is part of it. But I also think his confidence is completely shot offensively. And, unfortunately, his defensive reaction speed is affected by how he's playing offensively. He is slow, but an unconfident player is a player that makes decisions just a split second slower.
In our 6 losses, he is 7-30 from 3. It's not a coincidence that those are also his worst games by defensive metrics as well.

I will push back gently on this...I think they are a very similar team to the one that was 15-2. Those close wins against Tulsa, SMU, UTSA, Vanderbilt, Clemson, and VCU could've very easily been close losses. They are a few missed shots, or made shots by opponents, from having as many as 11 losses right now.

And while I think this team was playing with fire the whole time with the all of the close games, I still think they’d be 19-2 if Mills doesn’t go down. Moot point, but I truly believe that.

Even with him not playing we played 11 players in the first half. That is absurd
Halfway through the first half, we had played more players (11) than we had points scored or actual game time. Jayden was not even available this game, that is playing almost the entire team, this is not freaking boys club ball where everyone has to get minutes!

Mills played 27 min against Villanova, the game where we probably played the worst half of basketball I've ever seen in the 4 decades I've been watching. I don't think this has much to do with him. Sure, he probably helped us get lucky for a few weeks, but luck always runs out eventually.

We barely lost 3 of the games. He is much better than the guards that are playing instead of him. CM defended and was solid on the ball. His impact could easily swing a game 5-10 points in our direction. That matters when you consider we lost those games by 1, 2 and 3 points respectively.

We cannot get stops. Mills could get stops consistently...
I listened to Gabe Kuhn today on the ride home in the car. Dude spelled it out about the broke Tiger team. Called them out top to bottom. If you are interested, it was a good listen.

Lunardi and Palm will update today. Very much doubt we are in Lunardi's as we were in the First Four Byes before the Rice loss. Might still be in Palms but I doubt it.
