General bball question
Why do today's games have the same tipoff time?
... MBB 1 p.m. at Ball State
... WBB 1 p.m. home vs. Akron
Does someone (MAC?) NOT know the different time zones (CST and EST) would drop them on top of each other? NIU has enough problems without splitting the fanbase.

At least they're both on ESPN+.

Just sayin'.

I'm going to be real honest here...not too many give a rat's arse about the women's team. Granted...not too many give one for the men's team either but there isn't much of an overlap between those who are going to be viewing the men's game vs those who are going to be viewing the women's game.

And as pitiful as the viewership numbers are for men's games, I'd be surprised if the number of views for the women's games are barely above 10 (especially once you eliminate family members of the players).

I mean...if you watch the women's games (and I'm pretty sure you do), then good on ya, but man you are in a magnificent minority here.

I could admittedly be wrong...but my gut tells me I'm not...but I've been wrong plenty of times in my life. But the interest in mens' vs women's basketball is a pretty wide gulf and one that I don't think should really play into too much of the scheduling decisions especially when you have teams traveling by bus in January.

With all of that said, I'm really surprised so many here want to ditch ESPN and the tv/streaming deal for something else as if any other deal will carry all of our women's games, let alone any other sport or a full slate of games for football or basketball. I'd think if a person was really into watching women's basketball and the other non-revenue sports, ESPN is by far the best option.

As usual, your well-considered assessment of interest is not far off reality, IMHO, but ...

... let's ignore 10 fans of one for 20 fans of the other?

IMO any fans of either or both are important, as NIU has a severe fan shortage all around. Also, if one or the other starts winning consistently (we CAN dream, can't we?) forcing the few to choose is not smart.

Also, the WBB game is Senior Day. The MBB game is Gee-we-sure-hope-we-don't-lose-yet-another-one Day.

Yeah, I'm not saying it couldn't be done differently. I just think (outside of this topic being barely a blip on anyone's radar that would probably just be dismissed as irrelevant noise) travel schedules and departure times supersede the viewing habits of a few dozen people.

I'd say...once the teams become relevant and have substantial viewership numbers (in whatever fantasy world we can dream up), then cross that bridge with the schedule makers when we get to it. But right now...its not much of a consideration.

Nevertheless, I do sympathize with you on watching the teams you follow.

Yeah, it's no big deal. I was getting bored without all the usual forum blather going on. But if nothing is said then nothing may ever be said.
There's that pesky nail.

Btw, am interested in ALL Huskie teams. Just don't see the need to fill gaps that don't exist when others are posting.

Agreed.

This place has gotten pretty quiet here the past week or so, so I appreciate the topic and something else to think about (I didn't realize the games were scheduled opposite one another but I don't follow the women).

Because the MAC, and the individual schools, take many other factors into account that override this concern. Availability of facility to accommodate wrestling or gymnastics (not everyone has a Victor E court option), coaches' desires or concerns over travel and adequate time between games, the tried and true "it's always been this way", or the politically incorrect "who cares what the other (gender) is doing." It wasn't too long ago that NIU often conflicted with itself scheduling two different sports (say basketball and swimming, football and volleyball or soccer) at the same time on campus, let alone be concerned with what was happening miles away.

Things get quiet when the teams lose, no one enjoys watching losers.
