Well, at least somebody finally asked Penny about playing his kids. Whether you agree with his answer or not, at least his thinking about the subject is now out there.

And while generally I disagree with Jayden getting a bunch of minutes, I had a good idea why it happened against Tulane. No Jourdain, Walton or Tomlin and you are starting to run out of options. I didn’t know NJ was sick, however.
Ultimately, when the Hardaway kids play we need them to relax and hit shots. I feel like they can hit a wide open shot; it seems like a mental thing at this point.

What I don't understand is why Ashton is getting about 10 min per game while Cherenfant is only getting maybe 3 min. Charenfant was a 4-star, 76th ranked player in his class last year yet barely being played. The few times I saw him play I was pretty impressed. He even got a dunk that impressed the announcers a few games ago. I'd be surprised if he sticks around next year.

Good times.
One Kentucky fan? If you think this board is a little overboard sometimes, you should go take a look at... https://kentucky.forums.rivals.com/forum...-forum.26/
Those folks are downright delusional. Just scroll down through the thread titles. If there was a cliff over there, half of them would jump off of it and the other half would throw Cal over it.

We are a lot alike, there’s just a whole state of them, whereas we take in maybe Shelby and Desoto Counties

Yeah you may be right. He probably can’t shoot like Ashton, but he definitely appears to be more athletic and better at other aspects of the game. Then again, if AH isn’t hitting shots in the game it doesn’t matter how many he hits in practice.

I don't know. All of our best players are "one-and-done" because they're out of eligibility. He can come back next year and be the "veteran".

Ashton has had ONE game where he shot well. He’s starting to look more like Drew Barham or Leon Mitchell

I dont have as much of an issue with Ashton. You can chalk it up to growing a freshman to be something more down the road. And his 3pt% is good enough that he gives you something on the court. Jayden on the other hand makes no sense. His advanced metrics are outrageously bad and his counting stats might even be worse.
Ranking of players in the rotation:
2nd lowest PER(Ashton is worse)
Worst eFG%
2nd lowest Reb%(Ashton is worse)
Worst Ast %
Worst Stl%
2nd lowest Win Share/40 (Ashton is worse)
Worst Box Plus/Minus
Worst defensive rating
2nd Lowest FG%(Ashton is worse)
Worst 3pt%

Those stats support him being the most solid player on the team & best 3P shooter in the country. Plus, with him being the greatest boxer outer on the team, along with having the 2nd lowest rebound % to boot, it explains why we are so bad on the boards! Gotta have more Jayden getting cardio on the court!
I thought the security blanket strategy would be over with since ALo exhausted his eligibility but here we are with one more year to go, of a player getting too many minutes, limiting our upside.

meh
For starters, Ashton's a freshmen. With Drew, we waited 2 years before realizing it wasn't happening here.
And Ashton has hit multiple 3's in a few games. He's shooting over 33% for the year - which is an avg benchmark.
Besides, Ashton's minutes have come down considerably. In 9 of the last 10 games, he's been 8 or fewer minutes. The one exception was USF, when Penny put all the subs in too soon. He's averaged fewer than 7 minutes since early December.
Jayden's minutes have come down too. In 4 of the 6 AAC games, Jayden has played 11 or fewer minutes. The 2 exceptions - Tulane where we were extremely short handed in the 2nd half, and UTSA that went to OT and everyone got in on the action.
Jayden's game seems to have plateaued or maybe even regressed this year, for sure. But the Hardaway boys are not why we have lost the past 2 games.
