I know there's another thread for Pope to Kentucky, but this is pretty surprising:

$5.5m a year for 5 years, $27.5m total, less than Calipari's buyout would have been. Odd doesn't begin to describe this. They can spin it however they want, and I understand Pope's connection to the program, but they couldn't get any of their top choices? What's going on in Lexington?

I don't usually mention D2 hires but think this one is worth a mention with the sheer legacy Ben McCollum left behind in Maryville.

Matt Keeley becomes the new Northwest Missouri St head coach. Keeley is very much a program builder. He spent 7 seasons at Ottawa (AZ) in NAIA bringing that program up from literally scratch and bringing them to a Final 4 in 2023. The school only opened in 2017 as a second campus to Ottawa (KS).

Our NAIA enthusiasts might know a little bit more about him. Also worth noting that Ben McCollum was partially involved in the selection process as well.

Odd move. Word is he’ll be making more than any head coach in the NEC besides LIU’s.

Apparently he's getting paid around 250k to be an assistant at LIU so I can understand why he took it but still really sucks for the Cougars.

And with that hire, does this year's carousel stop? Sad day.

Mount St. Mary’s is still open. You have to wear a bow tie.

Florida A&M and Chicago State are still open as well.

Anyway, that's a heck of a pull from Brigham Young to get Kevin Young to become their coach when he was probably in the running to be Brooklyn Nets head coach if he stayed. Obviously BYU had to pay up giving him over 4 million a season but think it's worth it. Most the people from Provo I've seen comment are very happy with this hire by Tom Holmoe.

UC Santa Barbara women hire Renee Jimenez from D2 Cal State San Marcos, who guided the Cougars to the Final Four this past season. She's a local from Ventura.

I enjoy watching LIU ever so slowly build their program back.

Patrick Crarey II to Florida A&M. Crarey most recently was with St Thomas (FL) in NAIA as head coach and assistant athletic director leading them to a very successful 3 year period including a school record 26 wins in the 2022-23 season.

Before that he was with Washington Adventist once again as head coach and AD for a decade plus (2010-21) becoming their all time winningest coach leading them to 4 NAIA tournaments. An impressive feat for an independent.

It will be all change at BYU next season after Mark Pope left for Kentucky and Phoenix Suns assistant coach Kevin Young came in but what went under the radar was top assistant Kahil Fennell leaving for UTRGV job last week.

Fennell was on the BYU coaching staff for the past couple of seasons. Before that he was Director of Basketball Operations at Louisville from 2018-22.
