How many shots did Emoni take? Oh, that was last year.

For whatever reason the EMU offense isn't a well oiled machine. Not last year, not now.

I decided to take a look at the MAC website and look at team assists FOR CONFERENCE games only. Dead last.

Steve, we have been dead last in assists for the past two years and also dead last in 3 point % made. This is continuing this year. The fixes aren't working.

And for those who think I am inconsistent I have been saying EMU needs a true point guard ever since Heath was hired.

We have been dead last in assists all 3 years Coach Heath has been here. In year 1, some on this forum thought it was because we did not have “D1 level players” on the team. Year 2, some on this forum thought “Emoni Bates selfish play” was the cause (other’s argued against this, which I think was the point of Steve’s joke above). Year 3, ???????????

I am not trying to provoke an argument on differing perspective(or “realities” as you called it in another thread). Coach Heath does not have the player talent needed to win the MAC. But he does have the player talent to be more competitive within MAC games than they have been the last 4 games. And based on Coach Heath’s first 2 years, there likely are not any fixes coming… I hope he proves me wrong.

Ramy, based on 3 years of dead last in assists then we must conclude it is Heaths system. It’s easy to see we do too much dribbling and not enough passing to score the ball. Plus Heath never established a low post scoring threat where the post player may take one dribble and score the ball awarding an assist to the player who passed to the post. Many deficiencies in Heaths system which may win him last place in the conference.

To get a coach in place at EMU, we might first have to get an AD hired with a vision and understanding what it takes to compete in the MAC.

Has wetherbee made any good hires ?

From emueagles:

"Overall, Wetherbee has made 10 head coaching hires in his time at Eastern Michigan, and will welcome new leaders for baseball and tennis in 2023-24. He also hired volleyball head coach Kevin Foeman, men’s basketball head coach Stan Heath, women’s golf head coach Stephanie Jennings, gymnastics head coach Katie Minasola, swimming head coach Derek Perkins, lacrosse head coach Sara Tisdale, and baseball head coach Robbie Britt. Additionally, he promoted Sue Parks from head women’s track & field/cross country to oversee both the men’s and women’s programs."

Yes, my point about assists was that it was a problem last year, this year and indeed two years ago.

If the problem is "system" , then I as a fan and forum poster am not going to be able to solve it.

All I can say is recruit a top notch PG.

We've only had two true point guards in the last 30 years. We've been last or near last place in those years. As I've stated and been slammed and harassed about for nearly that long. No true point guard, no true floor captain very disappointing.:coffee3:now leave me alone.07-coffee3

Gee I can remember Dennis (hoopster) saying that the PG "IS THE STRAW THAT STIRS THE DRINK." (all caps in his honor).

PG is the most important position in hoops. It used to be center say 50 years ago.

Yes! A true point guard/floor captain/ floor general normally leads the team in assists. He's the player that gets the ball to the right player at the right time in the right place. 07-coffee3

During Barnes first two years it was Earl. The team refused to listen to anything Barnes said. Fact! You can't be a sideline bench point guard, floor captain. It's has to be someone play the game who can see what the other team is doing and make adjustments on the fly.

RamyEMU, We were down by 38 points in the 2nd half against a 8-9 Ohio U team, who were playing without their leading scorer! We looked awful as a team......How much patience does game GAMEABOVE have? Since we don't have a PG, bring back the greatest ever EARL BOYKINS! I watched him coaching the other night for UTEP, and he was talking to their players! It's time now! Last time we went dancing was in 1998, and Earl Boykins was a senior!
