You are right Sally. When a cornerback flies to a Wide Receiver, I'm sure his intent is killing him.

When a forward kicks a goalie in the face, I'm sure the intent behind it was to end the goalies life.

When Roger Clemons throws a 98 MPH fastball to the back of Mike Piazza's head, it is without a doubt because Roger wants Mike to be dead.

OR OF COURSE THE OTHER POSSIBILITY:
Wait, this may be profound; When people play physical games, sometimes it results in injury. SOMETIMES emotion takes over, and people act out aggresively against somebody they would normally consider a friend. This has happened an unaccountable number of times in athletic competition. The only way to stop it is for us all to sit around and play Chess.

Or maybe "Scrabble".

PS: Jason Williams, fully prepared to step out for the entire season after taking FULL responsibility for the incident, has done nothing but support and motivate his underclassmen teammates since. He and Stefon continue to be friends.

A cornerback tackles a wide receiver. It is a routine part of the game. If he doesn't tackle, his team may lose. Since when is a fist to the face a routine part of basketball? Do you lose a game if you DON'T punch someone in practice? Honestly, that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I don't follow soccer in the slightest, but if someone kicks someone else in the face, in any situation, you can bet he had an intent to harm (unless it's an accident). Notice I never said intent to kill anywhere in my post, so I don't know why you bring up death so much, but HARM was indeed meant. You don't kick someone in the face to show your deep appreciation and love for that person, and you don't punch them to show it either.

You throw at hitters for strategic reasons in baseball. Pray tell, what is the strategic reason for breaking someone's jaw with your fist? Can you not see the flaw behind your logic?

Yes, when people play physical games it can result in injury. However, 99.9% of these are causes by accidents, such as your ankle being twisted if you step on it wrong. There is absolutely no way to stop this kind of injury. There are ways to stop many violent offenses like this from happening, though, not just playing Chess or Scrabble like you suggested. They are called CONSEQUENCES. Someone will think twice about harming another person in such a fashion if there are deterrents. In normal life, it's called jail. But in college basketball, this is called a suspension, and Doc Sadler ruling on Jason Williams was equivalent to sending him to Martha Stewart's jail for the night. Way to set the example, Sadler!

Ah, the fallacy of false analogies....

Actually, Clemons probably does want to kill Piazza...

Here lets quote a UTEP fan since this is on now on the smack board.

Who cares if the victim is his friend? In domestic violence, the victim is generally the wife of the person committing the crime. Does that make it okay then?

I never thought UTEP would head down the path of "Win at Any Cost" like the THUG U's of the past, but it looks like that. Looks like the administration and AD Stull are $$$ drunk from the success of football and want the same from the roundball squad.

You want smack here you go

**Give me your poor thugs thrown out for trash and UTEP will take them. (as Sadler was heavily recruiting Bronson and Kilgore ECU cast aways) Even when they break a teammates jaw with a punch we will only suspend you for ONLY 1 game while the victim eat's through a straw and goes into surgery. That's the UTEP way.

What is with your dislike for UTEP Jonesing? Should there not be second chances for anyone? You talk about UTEP recruiting two of your schools ex-players but you don't mention that UTEP didn't sign or offer either of them. You need to be careful with your high horse attitude because one day a kid from ECU will make a mistake and I an every other poster will call you out on it. We are dealing with kids and they do make mistakes. I think most people out there believe in second chances. I and most don't believe in a third one so we will have to wait and see how these guys play out when and if they get here.

It's not your kids, its your coach and administration that can't discipline them. That kind of crap happens everywhere, but your administration handling of it is just WEAK. We suspended guys for missing a running session for as much as you did for a teamate breaking another's jaw!

You offered both of those former ECU flunkies. One signed with Xavier the other is still out there. I read this off of a UTEP recruiting site.

Kilgore was not offered. he was ready to sign early, but we didn't offer. Doesn't mean we won't. Bronson was definitely a target. I guess you think Xavier is some awful school lacking ethics being that they signed your man Bronson....You say UTEP lacks discipline. One incident does not a department make. This was high profile so it got lots of press. UTEP does not seem to have a problem with athletes running wild.
