Yusuf Jihad needs to be playing at least 25 minutes every single game. He is clearly the best outside shooter on the team.

Ramy you are clearly EMU's biggest BB fan on this website, and I genuinely appreciate your contributions.

That said, please, please, do not get carried away with simple statistics. Liars do indeed figure and figures do indeed lie. For example, Emoni Bates was clearly the best three-ball shooter in EMU recent history. Utilizing percentages only, however, Acuff, Billingsley, KDR and even Colin Golson were better beyond the arc last season.

Acuff is clearly our best outside threat, but Jihad, "Stan's flavor of the week" three weeks ago needs to play more.

Fair enough point. But when Jihad has taken as many 3s as he has this season, it is not a small sample size anomaly of only taking wide open attempts. And his 46.2% blows anyone out of the water from either last year or this year. So, I will give TyCuff a lot of credit for his phenomenal year, but I stand behind that Jihad is the best outside threat on the team. Glad we do agree on getting Jihad more minutes.

Otherwise, love your usage of “flavor of the week”. I feel like all 3 years Coach Heath is still playing around with lineups way too late in the year.

Amen to playing around with the lineups! If Coach does not know what he has by this point in the season, the problem is not with the talent but rather the evaluator.

I listened to Stan's postgame interview on WEMU. He declared that people are packing the paint because we don't shoot the ball well outside. I agree. Then he starts the game with Jihad and Osojnik on the bench. SMH.

He also stated that "we are one player away from being good". Well Stan, what does that mean? You have had THREE years and the portal to get THAT guy. Was he Noah Farrakhan that you could not keep? Or was it a plea for everyone to stay patient? After three years I've lost patience quite frankly, and I suspect our two best players, Acuff and Lovejoy will be in the portal post season.

I was Murphy's biggest critic and wanted him gone. Three years later and WMU is 4-1, CMU 3-2 and we are 1-4. No matter how much I like Stan, Rob clearly was a more successful coach.

You often deride players who you “perceive” to not commit to the concept of “team”. So I find this post ironic.

He’s a big fan of arguing for the sake of arguing. I often find his points to be inconsistent as well.

Losing is frustrating. It’s a long MAC season. Hope the team finds that defensive intensity that made them watchable for most of the year. It wasn’t there in the 2nd half against Ball State, that’s for you sure.

Coaching staff was very vocal with the team on in game defensive positioning against Ball St. Such as yelling to Lovejoy “Hands, hands” in which he immediately spread his hands out laterally. An extensive discussion with Ellerbe and then Billingsley after a foul. Hopefully they are righting the ship- rather than adding to the player frustration that losing causes.

Osojnik, Martynov, Geeter, Jihad, Serven and Randle all hustle but are just a step slow. Nor are any of them very high leapers. I can't remember a less athletic EMU basketball team.

They do work, , hence I will still watch them.

This is a very insightful observation/post. It is a key deficiency of the team- both offensively and defensively. I would even argue that TyCuff and Lovejoy are closer to Billingsley’s borderline than they are to McGriff and Ellerbe’s quick/athletic. Offensively, both TyCuff and Lovejoy seem to be more skilled in probing for spots/creases then they are blowing by anyone. Defensively too, TyCuff is more about timing and Lovejoy about harassing then either are about “pouncing”.

Not critiquing either TyCuff or Lovejoy, of course. They are probably the best backcourt duo we have had in a real long time.

The expert has woke up from his nap and called the kettle black. Ramy likes to picks unprovoked fights with me because my view of EMU mens basketball reality is different than mine. So be it.
