Will probably be banned all along the west coast except for the NFL. Stanford and Cal would finally get into the B1G for pennies on the dollar when they disband the football programs. Private institutions may hold out though for tradition.

I could see football just morphing into flag football before going away altogether.

The fall of tackle football will be directly correlated to more CTE studies. Could be years away, but I could see parents making tougher decisions for their kids to play or not.

I doubt it.

The comparison that I like to make is to Boxing.

What "could" happen is restricting it to adults only.

I think that the age of being able to sign a contract may become the new standard.

A minimum age for playing football would not be a bad thing. Other people can argue "what age"?

50 yrs you won't be able to recognize the game, 100 yrs it will be in the history books. Little do people know it was almost banned at the turn of the century due to the death till and brutality of the sport, people thought the sport was barbaric, It was no regionalism whole country thought it needed to go .President Roosevelt step in to save the sport because he thought the sport was a display of manliness..Hence the creation of the NCAA. Won't be so lucky next time.

Knowing how the world is today, I'm concerned that California or another liberal state will ban more than 1 breath every 7 minutes for all creatures larger than 50 lbs. Humans will have to leave the state, and every moose, bear, non-cub wolf and Football Player will be forced into the sea. They will develop flippers and get REALLY good at water polo.

Or, you know, we could read the actual information available and see that the science dictates that playing tackle football before age 12 can be significantly more dangerous for kids than it is for kids after age 12. They already play touch or flag football at a younger age, delaying the start of tackle an extra couple of years won't make a huge difference.

I didn't play tackle football until 7th grade back in the late '80s, and that was very much the norm back then for the vast majority of kids.

Football players are the modern day Gladiators. We love us some brutality. If it's not football, then probably some form of Rugby would take its place. Still brutal, still hard-hitting, but perhaps a bit less dangerous for the participants.

Not going to happen. It will lose population quicker. They are already losing kids in California who do play football to out of state. With college football being added at the NJCAA and NAIA levels in California in recent years, and some of the public schools are weighing in on restarting it? It is a way to keep kids in state playing football. It seems attendance does not matter anymore.

Trying to leave politics out of this, I like the response that mentioned CTE as a probable cause. And there are some states that are more "CTE-aware" than others, IMO. Could high school-tackle football wind up being banned in a lot of states? Yes, IMO, sadly. But I can see flag football being a lot more dominant in high schools, as opposed to soccer.

Flag football could be a viable option for a replacement to tackle football.

I see it from the POV of CTE but flag football is already done in the off season as 7v7. The key thing that is loss there is a place for lineman who in most cases are larger kids. Wouldn't we be trading the problem of CTE for the other medical problems of overweight kids that are sitting and not moving. Maybe instead of banning we should be investing in better understanding of CTE, the equipment tech and training of our young athletes. The point I am trying to make is either way it will cost in the future without that investment.

Leadership has to come from somewhere. CA is why the college players (and not just the coaches and universities) can now be compensated for their NIL.

California will not be banning tackle football for kids under 12:
https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/...oung-kids/

Gov. Newsom, who opposes the bill, issued a statement Wednesday that read:

"I will not sign legislation that bans youth tackle football. I am deeply concerned about the health and safety of our young athletes, but an outright ban is not the answer. My Administration will work with the Legislature and the bill's author to strengthen safety in youth football — while ensuring parents have the freedom to decide which sports are most appropriate for their children."
