There's 4 new teams coming in next year, the BXII football title is up for grabs and a FB playoff berth is realistic. At any point, if KU were to leave, it would be to the Big 10. Lawrence isn't an SEC city.
Columbia, MO doesn't really scream "SEC" either, but look where they are. I believe once the Mizzou-KU rivalry gets re-kindled, KU will opt for the SEC once it sees a B1G invite is not forthcoming. For all of the Jayhawks squawking, they seem more of an SEC team than a B1G team to me.
For Jayhawk fans, remember when I talked about a possible B1G-Ivy League rivalry? To me, KU just doesn't scream public ivy like Michigan, Ohio State, and USC do.
Missouri left because of Texas -- just like Colorado, Nebraska and TAMU. Completely different circumstances. KU isn't joining the SEC.
And wouldn't it be interesting if, at the end of the media deal, if Texas A&M and Missouri, left to go to the Big10 for similar reasons.
Add in Colorado, and Kansas, and it's a Big12 reunion of sorts...

There won't be any need to move. Once the two Super Conferences are set they will likely bargain as one for leverage with the networks. To be in one is to be in both, and each will have conference games, and OOC games with each other. That's what happens in a relatively closed system.

I believe KU would go to either the B1G or SEC in the proverbial "New York minute" (as would virtually any school not already in either conference--Notre Dame excepted), if offered. KU has the donors to help handle the cost as needed. The only bar to KU is the invitation which may or may not be forthcoming.

kurt: Have you seen the Conference Realignment thread on Phog? It's over 2430 pages, and there is constant discussion re: KU's chances of escaping the Big XVI (and how long we might have to wait). As for the SEC, some posters are now considering an option that would not have been considered before.
