Here a Wisconsin preview of the matchup with Chicago State.

Wisconsin isn’t a big 3 point shooting team. They like to get inside and draw fouls. They get to the line about 20 times per game, so Chicago is going to have to just give them some gimmes inside to avoid the foul because the bench isn’t deep enough to lose, say Jahsean Corbet early in the game. And guys like Jean-Charles and Jernigan aren’t good at avoiding fouls.
But Jernigan can come from nowhere and block shots, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get at least a few game. And when a team throws it inside and a bigger guy works and maneuvers for a shot, it gives a guy like Jernigan time to get there and get blocks. And best of all, he doesn’t draw fouls doing that.
Fortunately, Tehshaundre Coke, who never even took the floor in the first part of the season, has come on and become a solid contributor in just a few games. He had 8 in one game and is big body inside who can rebound. He may be important in this game if fouls do indeed become an issue. He’s only listed at 6’5” but seems to hold his own inside.
I’d expect Brent Davis, AJ Neal and Noble Crawford get some good looks and hit some 3’s that might help the Cougars stay in this game. And Cardet will likely be at the line a lot. Wisconsin will likely have personnel who will try to play him more straight up than a team like Bethune-Cookman even tried to do, so that will actually give him a chance to to what he does and get some points.
So here’s to seeing if the Cougars can get another W. They are confident and have been winning a lot lately, so at least they will come in confident and ready for the challenge. Wisconsin has looked very good in some games, and a little shaky in some others, so it will be fun to see how each team shows out.
