Bowl Venues
Seeing where some of these bowl games are being played, Bridgeforth Stadium could certainly host a Bowl.

The Wampler Turkey Bowl
The Coors Light Bowl
The Rocktown Bowl

If Coastal and Charlotte’s Stadium can host, we certainly can.

The Hokies would fit right in playing in the Turkey Bowl.

Charlotte has the big city in a warmer location.
Coastal has the beach in a warmer location.

Right now weather/today’s high:
Harrisonurg 35/high 47
Charlotte 48/high 57
Myrtle 55/high 61

For a bowl game in mid to late Dec what does Harrisonburg have to offer?
Warm weather location? No
Big city? No
Beach? No
Dome? No

What’s the coldest location to host in mid Dec-early January? Boise? That’s a crap location for a bowl, and even Boise is 4 to 5x the size of Harrsionburg.

There’s no one in attendance at these games anyway! The localities don’t seem to support them, just the school’s faithful.
My post wasn’t really about the location, but the crappy stadiums.
We all know how cold Frisco can be, or Dallas. You can’t play every game in Florida.

Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, and Wrigley Field have all hosted bowl games.

But yes, Richmond or Hampton would make a lot more sense for a bowl game. Actually, Audi Field in DC would make a great venue. It's got about 20k seats, fantastic stuff around the stadium, and so on. The weather's not great, of course, but the place is probably a better environment than Navy/Annapolis for a bowl game.

For that matter, while I hate UVA with every fiber of my being, that's a really nice stadium they got.

Big city/metro is the difference though.

Again the big city.

Wouldn’t be ideal as far as weather, but they are edium to big cities/metros.

Correct.

And I think the host cities for bowls do care. While they don't know who's playing ahead of time, they do count on booking lots of hotel rooms, cars, and the like, in a time of year where travel is generally pretty light. I have a strong suspicion those factors are related. Places like Myrtle, Tampa, and Orlando are probably thrilled to have something to goose their tourism industries in what would otherwise be the offseason.
