Surprised this hasn't been posted here (if it was, I hadn't seen it), but Darryl Cummings passed away just over a week ago.

Darryl and I didn't have too many interactions, but I was friends with a number of tennis players during my time in school (and afterwards) and they always spoke very highly of him.

When I was in Croatia last spring, I ran into a former ODU player (whom I also went to HS with) and he'd said that Darryl was one of the few people from ODU who had ever come to visit.

My tennis connections back in the 757 also spoke highly of him. Community lost a good sportsman and a representative of what the school can be to people.

Darryl was one of the reasons why I grew to the love playing the game. He was always nice and struck up small conversations whenever he'd see me at matches or playing at the tennis center. He even made a few guest appearances at a few of my tennis classes back in the day. This is a huge loss to the tennis community of Hampton Roads.

They held a really nice ceremony for Coach Cummings at the tennis facility on Saturday. I didn't know him but have only heard the nicest things about the man and his impact on the local tennis scene.

They also did a nice recognition of him during the JMU game.
