Their top RB is out, their top WR is in the portal, and their QB is questionable. We should have a little more confidence now. Need to feed USA a steady dose of Samson.

I’m trying to be positive, but how are we going to score points? They will stack the box. How will we respond?

Well I believe Cam Ron is probably going to improve based on taking all the snaps for three weeks. Hopefully we have a short passing game developed. Do we have enough OL?

We may see all 3 roster QB play.

That is still my concern. It certainly helps that their top two playmakers (a 1,000 yard RB and a 1,000 yard WR) are both out and their starting QB might also be out. That seems like it might be offset by us losing Coleman, Merritt, and Kline though.

Their defense isn't losing anyone for this game and they do a good job of stopping the run. I also don't really see us being able to do much through the air given what we have seen from Ike and McCoy throwing the ball, and the fact that our o-line has struggled in pass protection at time. One thing that might be in our favor is who knows what this offense will even look like? I really don't know who will play QB? Could we go with some crazy wildcat with Evans all game?...Who knows!? Maybe that element of surprise will help. Given the guys they have out though maybe they won't score as much, but I still feel like this is going to be something like 23-6.

I do keep going back to CMU. We went into Mt. Pleasant (where they played much better this year) and lost by three...and frankly should have won I thought. Heck, if it wasn't for that stupid block PAT returned for the 2 points, that game is even closer and going to OT. Meanwhile, CMU went down to South Alabama and beat them...maybe we have a better shot than I think!

I am in no way confident about a potential win here without having an adequate QB playing. However with what South Alabama is also missing I find it hard to see us at 2 TD underdogs. Last I saw was EMU+16, I will gladly take that many points. Even in our worst games we rarely get blown out.

Harkema came out in the wishbone early against SJSU years ago. Caught them off guard.

Honestly I'm happy Austin isn't playing. Gives the other guys 1 last opportunity to audition for next year at QB. Honestly ask yourself if Austin gave us any type of advantage. Answer = no. What's the worst that would happen? I don't think we will win but am happy we are going to give guys more reps and coaches to evaluate talent that will be here next year.

RE: Bowl Game 2023 vs USA (Not the country)
I haven't seen this posted yet, but the depth chart is out and there are a few interesting tidbits:

Offense (No Smith, Conti, or Paaske)
-QB is listed as Ike OR McCoy
-TE is Jere with the backup being Daniels
-Mayo listed as starting in Conti's place
-Swinton went into the portal and is not listed, but I don't think he had on there the last few weeks anyway

Defense (No Kline, Merritt, or Coleman)
-Zelinsky listed as starting in Coleman's place
-Even though Merritt had been playing a ton, he was technically listed as a backup. Adrian Gonzalez is listed in his place
-Williams is listed as starting in Kline's spot (interested that Williams had been listed as Sparacio's backup but now slides into Kline's spot and true freshman Bryce Eliuk is listed as Joe's backup now)

It's also important to note that bowls games don't count towards eligibility. A guy can play in four games and still redshirt, so if they have played in less than four games they can play in the bowl and there is really no worry about blowing your redshirt. That also means if the have a guy that only played in his four games to keep his redshirt they could play him in the bowl game and still keep his redshirt.
(Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly sure that is the rule)

Regarding Merritt and Gonzalez - they rotate so much on the D-Line I'm not sure who the 'starter' is matters beyond the ego boost.

Yeah, my point was just who is now listed on the depth chart. Grant-Randall is, and has been, listed as the starter at tackle with Merritt as his backup. Gonzalez has not been on the depth chart, even though he has been getting snaps. He is now "officially" listed as Grant-Randall's backup.

Don't be surprised if Samson doesn't play. I have just heard some rumors. Not sure if it is injury related or something else.

That would be a real bummer. Not super surprising though if he was actually playing through injury all year. I really think our only shot to win is some kind of dynamic run game with Samson, Jaylon, and the QBs.

Samson did travel with the team, FWIW.

Bowl Game 2023 vs USA (Not the country)
We have no idea what to expect from the EMU team on Saturday, but neither does USA.

Will the fact that the EMU QBs have gotten an increased amount of the practice reps improve their performance? We will soon find out. Best case scenario is that one of them dazzles us into thinking he could start next Sept.

Kinda like Charlie Batch coming off the bench in 1994? I hear you.

I'm actually far more interested in this bowl game now that Austin entered the portal. This was clearly the weakest Creighton team since his first two years, but it has a whole lot of compelling seniors playing the last football game of their lives.

17-point underdogs playing a bowl game on an opponent's home field? We are playing with "house money" here, even a Liberty 56-20 loss is expected, and USA does not have Malik Willis.
