RE: CUSA & Sun Belt
I wonder if wku fans are a little happier now that the conference has their first NY6 team and the fact that we'll be getting some of it. Why are some so adamant about the other conferences? If they want to be in a great conference perhaps they can help instead of complaining. The grass isn't always greener on the other side as proven by Liberty this year.

Okay, I'll say it...

there were five schools left behind: Tech, WKU, MTSU, FIU, and UTEP and we were joined by some "newbies" to CUSA so we still had a league. Well, who has performed well this year and who sucked? Look at the final conference standings.

Tech is in deep chit with our lousy coach and lousy AD. It's not some silly rhetoric to say 0-12 is a real possibility next year. Maybe not a probability but a definite possibility. Maybe we'll get lucky and go 2-10. No joke.

Point is, the newcomers are doing their part to elevate CUSA. It's we older programs that need to step up.

The thing Ive noticed in G5, teams go up and down quickly. Were all just a transfer portal from being great or sucking.

The newbies far exceeded expectations. SHSU had a rough record, but was on the cusp of winning many times throughout the year.

With that said. Kennesaw can't say a damn thing until they do the same. The bar has been set pretty darn high now. Kennesaw, Delaware, and anyone added after them better come in guns blazing to carry the torch.

RE: CUSA & Sun Belt
Western has been pretty consistent after a 2-22 the next 13 seasons 7 and possibly 8 or more win seasons and a couple 7 win seasons. 2 conference championships played in another and one win away from the last two CUSA championship.

Plus coaching changes matter and I wouldn't doubt if Western had more than any other school in college football over the last 15 years....

6 different head coaches and only one really bad hire in those after moving up. Not only that but I bet in the G5 schools Western has to be close in the amount of asst coaches leaving for better paying jobs. Over the last couple years Helton had to replace basically everyone....

94 and possibly a 95th win in 13 years under 5 head coaches and that is why a 7 or 8 win season is a huge disappointment to Western fans even in only 15 seasons of FBS football

This is exactly right and as the WKU guy says, everyone is a bad hire away from disaster. The portal and transfer rules can and have had dramatic effects on teams. Easier to build a short term success but probably harder to maintain it. Such is life in the G5

Worth it to get 7000 people into HCC. The gate $ is nice. The win was better.

(12-03-2023 05:50 PM)army56mike Wrote:  It actually makes me a little sad to see all the angst, disrespect, anger and vitriol that flows between both CUSA and Sun Belt posters.

I completely understand the desire to out perform and one up each others conference. That is just good competition. But it doesn’t have to come at the expense of tearing each other up with personal shots or attacks at each other, universities, or the conferences.

Recognizing the good qualities and accomplishments of others doesn’t take the shine away from our own outstanding play or accomplishments. Nor will it make anything better amidst the struggle or shortfall of our own rooting interest. It just makes one look petty, jealous, angry, arrogant or obnoxious.

The Sun Belt Conference is made up of great member institutions with some pretty good fans. Just this year the SBC has accomplished a lot as many of the posters have pointed out. These are things that should be applauded. JMU had a fantastic season, as well as Troy. The SBC has soooo many bowl qualified teams. There were big wins over P5 schools, more than any other conference. And I think they had the best G5 winning percentage. I give them credit for excelling. It shows the strength and competitiveness of the conference.

Will be cheering for and watching CCU in Hawaii, App St. in the Cure Bowl, Arkansas St. in the Camilla Bowl, Ga. State in the Potatoe Bowl, USA in the 68 Bowl. Hope the other SBC teams have good games.

Of course we’ll get to settle conference and team superiority on the field when ODU vs. WKU and Jax St. vs. Louisiana face off in bowl games. As a CUSA member I will be pulling for our teams, though I won’t be upset too much if ODU wins, as I have followed that program for years. But… Go Tops!

CUSA has had great moments this year too. The further rise of both Liberty and New Mexico St. has been great to see. Liberty earned the G5 NY6 slot and we deserve much credit for that. Beyond that, the conference as a whole gained stability and growth. CUSA, like the SBC, are moving forward and gaining traction on the P5 competitively.

What it boils down to is we don’t have to sink into the muck of insults and belittlement. Rather, we can rise higher, show discipline, class, and, believe it or not, goodwill toward one another. 04-cheers
It all starts with you. It’s an individual effort. Only you can control what you type.

Sunbelt showing out, 1-3 against G5 in bowls. And don’t forget 20+ years of never playing on the big stage.

Best G5 conference ever!

Best G5 conference ever!

I think what's lost on many is that even if all of our 6-6 teams lose, 6-6 in a bowl is better than 3-9 or 4-8, and staying at home, which is what the middle and bottom ends of other G5 conferences are doing.

The Sun Belt had the best out of conference record this year in the G5, and won 4 P5 games. That's why there are so many 6-6 teams. If you can't understand why that's commendable, then you're just a hater. And that's all there is to it.

In bowl season so far, two of our 6-6 teams went into overtime with non 6-6 teams. A loss is a loss, but some perspective is needed. 6-6 GS got beat pretty bad by a good 9-3 Ohio team. 6-6 Marshall got beat by 8-4 UTSA. Are they great teams? No, they are average joes, but it's better than the bottom of every other G5 conference, which are filled to the brim with teams that couldn't break .500. Those 3-9 and 4-8 teams that weren't bowl eligible in the first place wouldn't have done any better.

If your only response is to cynically say "but I thought the SBC was so great, how could they possibly lose to any CUSA teams!!?!?" you're greatly missing the point. Almost no SBC fans outside of a few pot stirrers believe the SBC could never lose to CUSA.

That said, congrats to Liberty for getting the best bowl possible outside of a playoff berth. Liberty is good team and I hope they do well. NMSU and Jerry Kill are great too despite a loss to a very good Fresno team. JSU and WKU are probably my two favorites from CUSA. Would love for Troy to have them on the schedule.

Trying to elucidate some of you.
If you do not know what that means, ask someone from the University of Louisiana.
