So I was thinking just about the future of the sport(football) and whether or not specifically some group of five teams or conferences would consolidate with each other, and this idea dawned on me, and I wanted to see if it’s feasible:

Let’s say for the Sun Belt expands for reference here’s the hypothetical teams etc
The northeast/Southeast/Northwest/Southwest respectively (insert division/pod name here):
App/CCU/MTSU/USA
JMU/GASO/WKU/Troy
ODU/GAST/Memphis/USM
Marshall/USF/stAte/UL
ECU/FAU/ULM/Texas St
UNCC/FIU/UAB/UTSA

; in this example they expand to 20-24 with 4 five-six team pods-a team would play 4-5 pod or divisional games 4-3 out of divisional games and 3-2 OOC games with 2 protected rivalries. the winner of the divisions would play each other (so south east-south west and north east - north west) and then for the championship, any team that doesn’t qualify plays an extra opponent. This would do a few things:

1- allow us to expand without really feeling any bloat/avoid what happened with the south western conference
2-concentrate all the closest games/games that people care about in one schedule-while protecting rivals (so CCU for example would play Georgia and Florida schools while also playing App, and take your pick of the bunch there)
2- allow schools to better recruit due to constant competition in those areas (ie CCU gets Georgia and Florida, APP gets the NC,VA and WV areas etc)
3- increase the overal FPI and strength due to the sheer number of teams

For basketball and baseball and other sports I mean I guess you can pretty much play like a concentrated group and then rotate out opponents every other year

I for one would love to see how UAB, ECU would stack up in conference plus having Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee and even more of Texas for even more recruiting would be a plus

f no, that's awful. What some of you longterm SBC fans fail to understand is us newbs don't want to be in a conference with Charlotte, F_U, WKU, MTSU, etc, the same way you didn't put LaTech on your list, only it's fresher and more raw for us. Stop messing with perfection.

ECU went 0-2 vs sbc, badly. That's how they stack up. UAB, same thing. We don't need them.

Long term fan here...agree completely.

I'm debating to send this to the realignment forum. We have too many of these going.
