Could you see Vik declaring after this year? I have to imagine other schools will be after him with big NIL as well.

Haven't seen any of this team because it's all been on espn+ but Vik would have to have a monster year to declare. Not saying it's out of the realm but he'd be coming out of nowhere with no buzz to jump into the discussion. if he plays that well then more power to him because it likely meant that we would be huge beneficiaries of his play as well.

As far as NIL goes anything can happen but he really seems to love this place and being a bearcat, at least from what i've seen. if he gets a BAG then, again, more power to him even though it would sux. But he can probably make a nice living in Europe rn if money was so important to him, [ed] and unlike some US players, wouldn't have the hang ups of going overseas since he is a Euro. i just don't see it.

Read earlier here that Lakhin can’t get NIL because he’s in the U.S. on a student visa. If true, may be the only reason he hasn’t already been poached.

INTL students can get NIL, they just have to be paid for work in a country where they have work authorization.

RE: GT game thread
This team is really good. I can't believe how good, actually. Zero holes. So many pieces. So much different talent.

Aziz is the most exciting player in ages. He blocked that shot on his first defensive possession and GT didn't try to go underneath the rest of the game when he was in. They also sagged basically everytime he cut to the rim after setting a high pick, resulting in short jumpers or open 3s after a pass. He was gobbling up rebounds too. Had a big smile most of the time. What a debut.

Cannot wait for these guys to get more comfortable together and play some real teams.

And to think there's potentially another skilled 7 footer? Wes is a magician.

No...I don't think he's an NBA caliber player honestly, he'll and up having a VERY good career in Europe, just not athletic enough to play the 4 IMO and i dont know that he could play center either. He doesn't have an elite skill, and you need one to play in the NBA. IMO, Gary was a slightly better version of Vik in every area and he has really struggled to stick anywhere.

As for NIL...maybe? He has never struck me as someone who would jump at a cash opportunity over loyalty, but who knows.

Azuolas Tubelis

Declared for the draft last spring
Went undrafted
Back in Lithuania playing professionally now

I don't particularly care about how it translates to the NBA but Vik is already having an enormous year. Evan Miya already has him as the 23rd best player in country so far.

He has an absurd 144 kenpom offensive rating (45th in the country). He's 69% effective fg %, he's 61st in offensive rebounding rate and 75th in defensive rebounding rate. He's barely turning the ball over and is an elite defender.

I agree with your point I don’t think Vik will be an NBA player (20-30 years ago he’d be a first round pick) but he’s got something that Gary didn’t have and that’s height. 6’11” compared to 6’7”. If Gary was Vik’s height he’d be starting on NBA team right now lol.

I could form a list of 7 footers in the NBA similar to Vic. Only a few who can shoot the 3 like him. Vic just needs to shine in a March Madness NCAA run.

i'm as big a fan of Vik as anyone so i'm not the one that requires convincing. That said, from what i gather he and this team are eating against lesser competition. Let's see where he lands once this team has gotten into conference play.

Very true...but the point that Gary was better in just a out every skill category remains for me. Vik may be a slightly better passer.

Much of the offensive numbers are coming with an unsustainable shooting percentage from 3. Once defenses scout him up, that will likely drop a bit, though it will help in other areas as well. Cool thing about the way this team is built is that short of having 5 good defenders and a solid defensive scheme, you're always going to have someone on offense able to take advantage of something, which is different than normal.

We aren't the little sisters of the poor... there are very few programs that can offer more in NIL than we can. I'll be shocked if UC ever has a player poached, unless we allow them to be poached (a la Mika Adams-Woods getting lured into the portal by Ole Miss).

iirc, there was a tourney game against a decent TX team where we really put it to them in the first half. Maybe not this bad but for a tourney team from a power conference, it was something.

Against UTEP in the third round of the NCAA in 1992 during the Final Four run.
UC sprinted out to a 10-0 lead to start the game, and then to a 19-6 lead over the first 6 minutes of the game.
It ended up being a tight game with UC holding on for a 69-67 win.

UTEP’s coach was the legendary Don Haskins.

Yes
I was there in S16 in KC.
Eric Martin hit the two biggest free throws to seal it. Pressure free throws —most important free throws that I’ve seen since I’ve been following them. That allowed us to go to the E-eight where we dominated Memphis.

I think UTEP beatKansas In the first or second round. Earlier reporters had asked herb Jones about playing Kansas in a sweet 16 but he said we don’t know if it will be KS- it could be UTEP. He was scoffed at.

That yr was so much fun.

1993 NCAA second round against NM St. in the carrier dome.

NMSU could barely get the ball across mid court and the crowd gave them a standing ovation once they did.

At the post game press conference all their coach said when he got to the mic was "DUHHHH."

Yup, just so much better when it's an ACC school
