Exclamation Apple Cup Continues Until 2028
At least one conference rivalry ended by realignment will continue.

https://wsucougars.com/news/2023/11/19/f...e-cup.aspx

"Next year's match-up will take place on September 14, 2024 at Lumen Field in Seattle, with the following four games alternating between the school's campuses: 2025 (Pullman), 2026 (Seattle), 2027 (Pullman) and 2028 (Seattle). Terms of the agreement are still being finalized."

"The Apple Cup tradition is beloved by Huskies, Cougars and football fans across Washington and beyond, so one of my priorities has been to ensure that it continues into this new era," said University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce. "I'm thrilled that we'll be able to continue this tradition, and to kick off the new era at Lumen Field before returning to each campus. I'm grateful to Troy, our colleagues at Washington State University and our partners at First & Goal, Inc. for collaborating to make this happen. This is a win for our fans, our universities and the state of Washington."

"The Apple Cup is one of the oldest and most renowned rivalries in all of collegiate athletics," said WSU President Kirk Schulz. "For more than a century, fans across the state have been circling the Apple Cup date on their calendars. We are pleased that we will be able to continue this beloved tradition for future generations of Coug fans."

A settlement amongst the 12 Pac-12 schools must be very close. It wouldn't have happened otherwise.

It does show that Schulz and Chun understand the time pressure, as this is the start of season ticket sales, and also the transfer portal is opening up. They also managed to get a 5th game in Seattle using the Seahawk stadium as a neutral site, as this is super critical for alumni outreach, while keeping the "home" stadium appearances balanced to pacify their partisans. For all his bluster Schulz does seem to understand to make a deal. I'm less sure about OSU as they have been more militant, while Schulz is more focused on money.

Anyway, if this is settled, and the MWC agreement more or less worked out, and the NCAA situation more or less in line (reported by Wilner), then we have a lot of signs pointing toward the Pac-12 settlement before the next court date and before the transfer portal opens. I expect an announced around Turkey day, no more than a week after.

If Iowa Iowa St can still be played, it only makes sense. It does become problematic once the B1G adds a ninth and potentially tenth conference game. However, western teams need opponents, and don’t want to buy games against FCS or G5 teams more than is good for them.

Cal/Furd may be more lucrative for Oregon as opposed to their in-state rival however. This year’s Civil War will be something else given how much is on the line.

The Big Ten already has 9 conference games in football...

A P-team rivaling with a G-team? How scandalous!

I’m curious to Stug’s point that a settlement could be close. Of course the Beavers have to give to get as well. I’m curious if they value Civil War or would concede an extra 2 or so road games to the Ducks given the lack of an NFL venue in Portland. But we would have not seen a deal like this otherwise given how vociferous UDubs was about retaining some board control.

Good to see something not changing in college athletics.

Plus, Iowa and Iowa State were only in the same Conference for one year total in their entire existences, and that was 1908.

I made mention of this a couple months ago, both sides have wanted the Apple cup to continue. It's good to see this finalized, I hope the same can be done for The Civil War. To much history between the 4 NW schools to not continue the rivalries. 04-cheers

They aren't supposed to schedule FCS teams in years that have they have 5 Big Ten home games (since the Big Ten has already added a ninth conference game), so FCS games are supposed to be only every second year.

I think it's great for Wazzou, and UW has learned the Big Ten model quickly! 9 conference games preceded by 3 chumps 04-bow

Countdown to the Big Ten increasing to TEN games? It's manifest destiny and that will be what the TEN stands for! Insulation at its finest!

Understandable but unless there's some sort of uniform OOC schedule between the P4 than it's better to just play OOC rivals instead. Fans want rivalries not some random 10th vs 10th P4 matchup.

Everyone should be playing 10 at minimum coupled with OOC rivals, no need for random G5, FCS, or even P4 matchups (unless rivals)
